at all of its properties effective March 15.The closures include buffets at MGM Grand, ARIA, Bellagio, Mandalay Bay, Mirage, Luxor, and Excalibur."These changes are temporary and will be evaluated on a weekly basis," MGM said in a statement.MGM did not provide additional information in response to an initial media inquiry, though the announcement comes as the world deals with an outbreak of the novel coronavirus. It's unclear what will happen to employees working on the buffet lines. The Culinary Union, which includes hospitality workers in Nevada, said it is sending representatives to bargain with casino companies amid the outbreak."Now, as the coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to spread, we are working very hard to monitor the effects on Culinary Union members," the Union said in a statement. "The Culinary Union is sending requests to all of the casino companies to meet immediately and bargain on the effects of the coronavirus outbreak. We are evaluating the coronavirus situation daily."Caesars says their buffets will remain open, but they say they will be incorporating cleaning and hygiene protocols into their buffets.Station Casinos and Boyd Gaming did not immediately respond to a request for comment regarding their buffets. This story was originally published by Joyce Lupiani and Austin Carter on 1323

Working from home is new territory for many employers and employees during the COVID-19 pandemic. That has some workers asking to be reimbursed for money they've spent on a home office."What has occurred different during the pandemic is now everyone, or many organizations, have folks teleworking. Although there may not be a lot of business travel, there are some organizations that are providing assistance to employees to help with any telework expenses they have," said John Dooney, the HR Knowledge Advisor for the Society of Human Resources Management. From cell phones to home internet plans, he says employers have become somewhat flexible to ensure their employees have what they need to do their jobs effectively from home."And some companies are just providing small stipends on a monthly basis to take care of an additional cost," said Dooney.AppZen, which provides artificial intelligence on companies' expenses, says during the pandemic, they noticed a shift in what employees were asking to be reimbursed for."The ones like travel and hotel obviously went down but items like n95 masks, cleaning supplies, stuff that you’ve never seen on expense reports before started showing up," said Anant Kale, AppZen's CEO.Kale says some of the most popular items people wanted to get reimbursed varied."The items change from company to company based on what they're used to having in their office environment, but the common ones tend to be things around work-related stuff. A monitor they want to buy or a chair or desk or light or lamp they want to use," said Kale.Dooney says having a clear policy is crucial. He suggests companies create a new policy relating specifically to work-from-home reimbursement expenses."Some organizations I’ve seen actually have policies about what won’t be reimbursed. We won’t be reimbursing lawn care or electricity in the house. The clearer you can be, the better it is for an employee. And why is this so? Because everything is new. It's just a different time," said Dooney. Also, check state laws as some like California, Illinois and New York have regulations when it comes to reimbursing employees work-related expenses. 2172

early Sunday morning that left a pizza delivery driver dead on Cleveland's East Side.Officers responded to the scene around 12 a.m. local time after receiving a call that a man had been shot, according to police.Once on scene, officers found a man in a vehicle who had been shot and had crashed into two parked cars, police said.Officers and fire crews administered first aid to the man until EMS arrived. The man, identified as Daniel A. It’s a change Melaine Grein could feel in her joints even before the snow began to fall.“I can feel it in my ankle and I know the weather is going to change before it even does just because it hurts. It’s really stiff,” Grein said.Grein hurt her ankle a couple of years ago and says she’s been able to feel temperature changes in it ever since.“It’s just affected by the weather, cold, rain, everything,” she said. “I’ve told my friend before that I think it’s going to rain and then it did.”Grein isn’t the only one who says she can feel the weather change. Many people with arthritis pain say they can feel it in their joints or bones. At Englewood Primary Care in the Swedish Medical Center, Dr. Scott Joy says it isn’t an urban myth when people say they can feel the weather change.“Big changes in temperature can change blood flow through the body,” Joy said. “Any time we get a large weather system moving through the area it changes the pressure, and people who have chronic joint pain will often notice more joint pain.”A big temperature change can affect three groups of people in particular: those with heart disease, asthma or arthritis. The weather can pose serious health risks for all three groups, which is why Joy says it’s important to be prepared. For people with heart disease, it’s important to have all of your medications on hand and to take them as prescribed. Joy says it’s also a good idea to have some nitroglycerin on hand.If people experience pain in their chest or shortness of breath with the weather change, it’s important to seek medical help.“These are things that can actually lead to death and serious morbidity and mortality. It can lead to unnecessary ER visits, it can lead to long hospital stays, it can even lead to stays in the intensive care unit if you have a severe event,” Joy said. For people with asthma, along with having their chronic inhaler on hand, it’s important to keep a rescue inhaler nearby since the weather change can trigger some inflammation in the upper airways. For those with chronic joint pain, it’s important to have an anti-inflammatory on hand in case the temperature change causes pain. For everyone else, it’s important to bundle up and protect your skin.“You are at real risk for skin damage and dry skin and frostbite,” Joy said.As always, Joy says it’s also a good idea to stay hydrated as well and don’t overexert yourself. This story was originally published by 2433
