(AP) — Officials say protesters in Portland, Oregon repeatedly set fire to a police union headquarters building and were repelled by officers spraying tear gas.A total of 25 people were arrested amid the clashes that lasted into Tuesday morning. Many were charged with interfering with a peace officer and/or disorderly conduct. Police say in a statement that the protesters in a group of about 300 people hurled rocks and bottles at officers and set three fires to the sides of the Portland Police Association Building and one to an awning. All fires were put out late Monday night and early Tuesday morning.Among other things, police say the crowd chanted "burn it down." Many in the crowd reportedly carried shields, wore helmets, gas masks, and body armor.After giving numerous warnings to the protesters, police say they deployed tear gas and used other crowd control munitions to take control of the situation and arrest those who failed to listen to officers.Portland has been gripped by nightly protests for months since the police killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis. 1102

President Donald Trump announced on Twitter Wednesday that he will pardon his former national security adviser Michael Flynn.Flynn pleaded guilty in 2017 on charges of lying to the FBI. The guilty plea came months after he stepped down from his post as national security adviser after it was revealed that he had misled Vice President Mike Pence about his connections to Russian ambassador to the US Sergey Kislyak.The guilty plea came directly out of Robert Mueller's probe into the 2016 election.Flynn stepped down from the Trump administration less than a month after Trump was inaugurated.Flynn’s sentence has been delayed on multiple occasions. In 2020, Attorney General Bill Barr announced that Department of Justice was looking to drop all charges. Barr and the DOJ have since been battling in federal court over the unprecedented move to drop the charges after a guilty plea was entered.Trump’s pardon will now make the case moot.“It is my Great Honor to announce that General Michael T. (KGTV) - Poway Unified School District is launching a pilot program in an attempt to take an innovative approach to special education, bringing children with learning disabilties together with the general education population."We know, as students of history, separate has never been equal," Associate Superintendent Greg Mizel said in an interview with 10News. "So the more that we mix up our kids, the better for all children."The program is being tried in three schools: Monterey Ridge Elementary in 4S Ranch, Twin Peaks Middle in Poway, and Mt. Carmel in Rancho Pe?asquitos. All students who are in the special education program will have regular classes with students from the general education population. Those classes will have two teachers, one from special ed and one from general ed. That means all children will have more academic support, while there always be someone trained to give the special needs students the additional care they need.Thus far, teachers and administrators say the program has been a big success, with special education students thriving on the increased socialization and higher academic standards, and the general education students getting additional attention in the classroom and the chance to increase empathy working with differently abled students.Staff at seven other PUSD schools are currently going through training in anticipation of the program being expanded next school year. 1448

President Donald Trump announced Tuesday he is quitting the Iran nuclear deal, pitting him against the United States' closest allies and leaving the future of Tehran's nuclear ambitions in question."I am announcing today that the United States will withdraw from the Iran nuclear deal," Trump said from the White House."It is clear to me that we cannot prevent an Iranian nuclear bomb under the decaying and cotton structure of the current agreement," he said. "The Iran deal is defective at its core. If we do nothing we know exactly what will happen."In announcing his decision, Trump will initiate new sanctions to go forward, crippling the touchstone agreement negotiated by his predecessor, according to a US official and a person familiar with the plan."The so-called Iran deal was supposed to protect the United States and our allies from the lunacy of an Iranian nuclear bomb, a weapon that will only endanger the survival of the Iranian regime," the President said. "In fact, the deal allowed Iran to continue enriching uranium and over time reach the brink of a nuclear breakout."The President added: "Today, we have definitive proof that this Iranian promise was a lie."Senior Trump administration officials -- including Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and the Director of National Intelligence Daniel Coats -- have said Iran is adhering to its commitments under the deal. PORTLAND, OR (KPTV) -- A man who bit a teen girl at a Green Day concert in Portland pleaded no contest to harassment and was sentenced to one month in jail.Joel Brian Dauncey, 34, of Vancouver, British Columbia, entered his no contest plea in court Monday. An additional charge of third-degree sex abuse was dismissed as part of his plea agreement.Dauncey was arrested last month following the Green Day concert at the Moda Center.Court documents state the 14-year-old victim was with her mother, who was on her left, with Dauncey on her right.The girl said she was dancing when Dauncey leaned over and bit her on her right breast, according to a probable cause affidavit.The affidavit states an employee working at the concert witnessed the bite and said Dauncey had been cut off from buying alcohol due to his behavior.Along with one month in jail, Dauncey was sentenced to 11 months probation and ordered to have no future contact with the victim.The-CNN-Wire 970
