Boeing has unveiled its newest line of business jets, which the company says will allow VIP travelers to fly nonstop between "any two cities on Earth."The BBJ 777X planes will have a range of 11,645 nautical miles (21,570 km), enabling them to offer the longest commercial flight in the world.Depending on which routes the jets are used on, the new models mean Boeing could wrestle the crown for farthest nonstop travel away from Airbus.Earlier this year, Singapore Airlines resumed its 17-hour flights between London and Singapore on Airbus A350-900 ULR (Ultra-Long Range) jets. But the distance traveled on the record-breaking flights is a mere 9,000 nautical miles (16,700 kilometers), putting it below the range Boeing's new jets are capable of.The planes "can fly more than halfway around the world without stopping, farther than any business jet ever built," the company said in a statement."Our most exclusive customers want to travel with the best space and comfort and fly directly to their destination. The new BBJ 777X will be able to do this like no other airplane before it, redefining ultra-long range VIP travel," Greg Laxton, head of Boeing Business Jets, added at the Middle East Business Aviation Association Show (MEBAA).The jets could be used to connect New York City with Perth in Western Australia, a journey which currently requires a connection and takes more than a day to make. Two versions of the jets have been made, the BBJ 777-8 and 777-9, with the latter offering a slightly shorter range of 11,000 nautical miles (20,370 kilometers) but boasting a larger cabin. The company has released renderings of the plane's interior, although it has not sold any of the planes yet.Other business jets produced by Boeing include the BBJ MAX and high-performance versions of its 787 Dreamliner.Since forming in 1996, Boeing Business Jets has delivered 234 jets on 261 orders. 1909

BOSTON (AP) — Authorities in a city north of Boston have captured an emu after the large flightless bird was spotted roaming local streets. The Eagle-Tribune reports that the animal named Kermit escaped from the property of a Haverhill resident as she was preparing to relocate it to a farm in Maine. Native to Australia, Emus are the world's largest bird after the ostrich and can reach nearly 100 pounds and a height of almost six feet. Authorities in Haverhill caught the bird two hours after it was sighted. They say an animal control officer enticed the emu by feeding it a pear from a nearby pear tree. 616

BREAKING: A judge has denied bail to Chris Watts, who is facing charges that he murdered his wife and children. More on this as it develops.FREDERICK, Colo. – Chris Watts was having an affair with a coworker, which he originally denied to police, before he allegedly killed his wife and two daughters last week, according to an affidavit for his arrest. The affidavit, which was released Monday afternoon after Watts was formally charged with nine felonies in the case, including first-degree murder and unlawful termination of a pregnancy, reveals more details about what led to Watts’ arrest in the deaths of Shanann Watts and their two daughters, Bella and Celeste. It also confirms the confession that KMGH previously reported.According to the affidavit, Shanann arrived home from a work trip just before 2 a.m. last Monday and was dropped off by a friend. But the friend became concerned when Shanann missed a 10 a.m. doctor’s appointment. The friend found Shanann’s vehicle in the garage and the car seats inside. She called Chris and asked him to come home because she was worried that Shanann may have suffered a medical episode and passed out, according to the affidavit. But police arrived before Chris did, the affidavit says. He let them inside the family’s home, where officers found Shanann’s purse on the kitchen island and a suitcase at the bottom of the stairs.Upstairs, the couple’s bed had been stripped of its sheets and blankets, but police wrote there were no signs of foul play.Chris Watts told officers under questioning that he and Shanann had been discussing “marital separation” that morning before the time he claimed he went to work. The affidavit says he “informed her he wanted to initiate the separation.” The affidavit says both were upset and crying, and says that Shanann told Chris that she would be going to a friend’s house later in the day.“Chris stated it was a civil conversation and they were not arguing but were emotional,” the affidavit says. He previously told KMGH that he and Shanann had an "emotional conversation" when they last saw each other.Chris claimed that he backed his truck up to the garage just before 5:30 a.m., loaded his tools in and left while Shanann was still in bed. Video surveillance confirms that he moved the truck around the same time but does not show what was loaded inside, according to the affidavit. The affidavit does not detail how investigators discovered that Chris had been having an affair, but says he had denied the affair in “previous interviews.”It goes on to say that two days after officers originally spoke to Chris when they were called to the home, that he asked to talk with his father before speaking further with police.“Chris said he would tell the truth after speaking with his dad,” the affidavit says.It says that he went on to claim to officers that after he told Shanann he wanted to separate, he saw Shanann strangling their daughters on a baby monitor.“Chris said he went into a rage and ultimately strangled Shanann to death,” the affidavit says next. “Chris said he loaded all three bodies onto the back seat of his work truck and took them to an oil site.”When officers showed him an aerial photo of the site, he identified the three places where the bodies could be found, the affidavit says. It says that officers found the bodies at the site he described.Watts faces three counts of first-degree murder after deliberation, two counts of first-degree murder – victim under 12/position of trust, one count of first-degree unlawful termination of a pregnancy, and three counts of tampering with a deceased human body, according to Colorado court records and documents filed Monday afternoon. He is next due in court Tuesday morning to learn his formal charges in the case.  3797

BALTIMORE, Md. -- On Thursday, Maryland will become the first state in the country to ban foam containers for all schools and restaurants in the state. Some counties throughout the Baltimore area have already made the move to ban Styrofoam. Baltimore County is not one of them, but some restaurants have already taken the initiative to go green.More eco-friendly to-go options at restaurants tend to be a little more expensive, but Styrofoam can't be recycled and doesn't break down, so it's considered an environmental issue. There is already a foam ban in Baltimore City, as well as Montgomery, Prince George's and Anne Arundel counties. In addition to the foam ban on Thursday, Howard County is charging five cents for plastic bags in another effort to be sustainable. It's a lot less than the 0 fine that restaurants could face for violating the foam ban.The foam ban was originally planned for July, but because of the pandemic, state officials pushed it back to October to give restaurants a little more time to adapt. This story was originally published by Erin MacPherson at WMAR. 1094

Both the COVID-19 pandemic and conversations about race happening now are shining a light on mental health. One in five adults experience mental illness each year. Only one in three Black adults who need mental health care are getting it.The reasons range from socioeconomic disparities, like access to health insurance, to the stigma in the Black community around getting this care.Another issue, the latest numbers from the American Psychological Association show 4% of psychologists in the U.S. are Black.“You know, I think a lot of these guys, they've been going to the same barber since they were 5 years old or maybe only went to a couple of barbers in their whole life and so it's their relationship,” said Lorenzo Lewis, founder of The Confess Project, which trains barbers to become mental health advocates. That training includes learning active listening, positive communication, validation and stigma reduction.Lewis says the barbershop is a good place for this because it's really the only place in the Black community, besides the church, where everyone from all socioeconomic backgrounds come. And they visit more frequently than they would their own doctor. He says he recognized the need for mental health help among black men, but saw it wasn't accessible to them.He is hearing conversations in barbershops change especially now with the issues the Black community is facing.“I think, if nothing else, it is more of a preparation conversation around life success and what in which we know when individuals are successful in life, career, health and their relationships, that they will have a quality mental health,” said Lewis. The mental health training for barbers is being offered in some cities in person, or you can take the virtual course.
