SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A new apartment complex in Pacific Beach is gearing up for its opening, but residents can expect to pay top dollar for all the bells and whistles offered by the complex. The Jefferson, a 3 million complex, is located just off I-5. According to its website, studio apartments range from ,478 to ,617. The largest apartments in the complex with three bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms range from ,987 to ,103. Those prices are much higher than the typical apartment in Pacific Beach, according to Zillow. Zillow’s rental map shows prices in Pacific Beach ranging from ,425 for a studio to more than ,850 for a three bedroom. Between those two price points, Zillow shows 152 apartments available for rent. One rental manager who spoke with 10News says The Jefferson may have a difficult time finding tenants at those prices. “Tenants, prospective tenants, they're educated. They educate themselves and they do comparative shopping. So if it's too high, you're going to sit empty,” said Jim Vosacek, who runs Western Hills Real Estate Management. JPI released a statement to 10News:“Jefferson Pacific Beach is the first multifamily development of its kind in Pacific Beach. While there are currently no other new, luxury developments like this in the area, this development will offer residents a quality, high-end lifestyle that has not previously been available. Before development, the team took a detailed, analytic dive into the surrounding area to ensure accurate determinations regarding cost of living. Although state development restrictions have impacted the cost at Jefferson Pacific Beach, a portion of total units will be reserved for affordable housing.” 1700

Now she had huge medical bills to worry about, which was what pushed her to type a message to the BSD community. She got an overwhelming response, more than a hundred comments and a surprise at her doorstep Wednesday morning.Jaime Harris, owner of Big Block Realty, was holding a giant check for ,000."There are so many families that are affected you know? Of course, we want to help the Black-owned businesses, but we realize our community is definitely suffering because they’re shut down and without a job," CEO of BSD, Sheri Jones said. She hopes the donation will bridge the gap, make their Christmas a little more merry and spread kindness during a season of giving."I would just like to say thank you and I appreciate the help and I appreciate everyone who helped with my family and reaching out to me and I really appreciate it and god bless everyone," Wyatt said. 1844
SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A powerful new public service campaign called "End Family Fire" launched Wednesday by the Brady Center for Gun Violence Prevention aims to promote awareness for gun safety in the home. The center says eight children are hurt or killed in a firearm accident every single day in the United States. Carol Landale with the Brady Center says the goal of the campaign is to show people that something can be done. According to the center, more than four and a half million children live in homes with loaded and unlocked guns, and three in four know where the guns in their home are stored. The term, “Family Fire” was developed specifically for this campaign and refers to a shooting involving an improperly stored or misused gun found in the home that results in death or injury. The Brady Center’s goal is to introduce “Family Fire” into the vocabulary of the American public, much like "Designate a Driver" and "Secondhand Smoke Kills" became powerful and effective slogans for their respective causes. 1071
