SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 66-year-old man was hospitalized Saturday morning with wounds he suffered in a stabbing in the Mira Mesa neighborhood of San Diego and a 19-year-old suspect was in custody.The victim was walking in the area of Westview Parkway and Galvin Avenue about 9:10 p.m. Friday when he got into an argument with the suspect, who stabbed him three times, then ran away through the parking lot of a business, according to Officer Robert Heims of the San Diego Police Department.The victim was stabbed in the chest and suffered cuts to his stomach and finger. He was taken to a hospital for treatment of non life threatening injuries, Heims said.Police searched the area and located the suspect, identified as Dejon Heard, and took him into custody, Heims said.Anyone who witnessed the stabbing was asked to call San Diego police Northeastern Division detectives at 858-538-8000 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580- 8477. 929

SAN DIEGO (CNS) -- A 76-year-old woman who died on May 24 is the first local fatality of e-cigarette or vaping-associated lung injury, the San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency announced Thursday.Three vaping-associated lung injuries in young adults were confirmed in recent weeks and are the first reports of the lung illness in San Diego County since 2019.All the newly reported local cases tested negative for the novel coronavirus, which causes COVID-19, and all reported recently vaping products containing THC.The California Department of Public Health recently recognized new reports of confirmed lung-injury cases in persons vaping THC-containing products in April, after no cases had been reported since February.Since July 2019, a total of 52 EVALI cases have been reported in San Diego County residents. All patients had to be hospitalized."While our community is understandably focused on COVID-19, it is important to remember that lung injury from vaping is still a major public health concern," said Dr. Wilma Wooten, county public health officer. "People who vape, especially those using THC-containing products, are urged to stop."In January, the San Diego County Board of Supervisors voted to restrict the sale of flavored smoking products and e-cigarette and vaping devices in the county's unincorporated areas. These restrictions were proposed as a response to the e-cigarette- or vaping-associated lung injury cases in the county and across the country. Enforcement of these restrictions will begin July 1.THC-containing e-cigarette or vaping products, particularly obtained from informal sources, are linked to most e-cigarette or vaping, lung injury cases. Vitamin E acetate has also been strongly linked to the outbreak and has been found in product samples from patients and in patient lung fluid samples.The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that people not use THC-containing e-cigarettes or vaping products obtained from informal sources such as friends, family, pop-up shops or online sellers. SAN BERNARDINO (KGTV) - With their backs to the wall, facing elimination, an unforgiving heat, and trying to stave off fatigue from a rigorous schedule, the Park View Little League all-stars survived to play another game at the West Regional tournament in San Bernardino.Keyed by slugger Jose Mendoza and stellar pitching by Kainoa Baptista, the Green Monsters kept their postseason run alive while ending the Arizona Sunnyside Little League's hopes of advancing.  The squad from Chula Vista defeated Sunnyside 9-5 in an elimination game Tuesday afternoon.PVLL, which suffered its first loss of the postseason on Monday, took an early 3-0 lead on a first-inning three-run blast to right center by Mendoza.The Southern California champs broke the game open in the third inning.  Down two outs with runners on first and second, Aiden Skinner punched a deep single to right field scoring Jordan Bleisch.The long inning and blistering 108-degree heat seemed to wear down Arizona starting pitcher Cristobal Lorta.  Lorta started struggling with his form allowing Park View to extend their lead 7-0 on two wild pitches with runners on third and an RBI single to Conner Alonzo.Sunnyside's decision to keep Lorta on the mound in the fourth inning backfired when the leadoff batter, Ivan Rodriguez Jr., ripped the first pitch down the left field line for a double. (KGTV) -- The California Assembly has voted to ban the manufacture and sale of new fur products.Animal welfare groups have rallied around the bill, arguing the fur industry is inhumane and pointing to alternatives like faux fur.But opponents of the bill have countered that the proposed law would devastate fur retailers and manufacturers.Some California cities, including Los Angeles, San Francisco and Berkeley, have already passed ordinances banning the sale of fur.The New York City council has also considered banning fur sales in America's biggest city.The bill would not include used fur products or furs used for traditional purposes.
