SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A local Marine's dreams are close to becoming a reality in the form of a massive property in Dulzura. It is not just for Kalani Creutzberg. His efforts to help others prompted an Animal Planet star to join the cause. Nate Schoemer was also a Marine. He was fresh out of high school with his blood type on his boots when he joined the invasion of Iraq.  "The first group was out there for three days and when they came back you could tell that they've just been through hell," Schoemer said. "This is hard for me to talk about," he said with tears in his eyes. It is especially hard to him to discuss it with civilians who often cannot comprehend the horrors of war. He lost some friends on that deployment in 2003."I could hear it from where I was," he started. "I mean I could hear them screaming," It haunted his heart on home soil., but he said his dog's love lifted his spirits. "I need to continue on this mission and helping others the way she helped me," he added.When he got out of the service he became a master dog trainer. He went on to host an Animal Planet show called "Rescue Dog to Super Dog". In it, he saved shelter dogs and turned them into service dogs for people in need. In episode one, he trained Bas for Creutzberg, which is how the two met. Creutzberg survived chilling deployments, but the fight for his life followed him home. "Before I knew it I was homeless," Creutzberg explained. "It was embarrassing, it was shameful," Bas gave him a sense of purpose. "When I was going there to rescue him he was actually the one rescuing me," Creutzberg added. Now, he is on a mission to give homeless vets a home. He plans to buy a property that is nearly 300 acres in Dulzura. "We're going to run our day to day operations very much like when we were back in the service," he explained. "There will be structure, we will work together…… the very things that a lot of us miss."It does not end there.  They will also rescue homeless dogs  about to be euthanized."[We'll] allow both the veterans and the dogs to grow relationships and start anew," he said. Schoemer believed in the Cammies and Canines Sanctuary so much, he joined the efforts. He plans to turn some of the dogs on death row into service dogs for vets. "Just being around Marines and veterans is a great thing,"  Schoemer said with a big grin. Their goal is to get back to tackling battles together. But there's a lot more that could go at a fraction of the price.San Diego State University will auction off hundreds of mementos from the stadium in December, including a variety of signage -- from seats to parking lot -- and heavy duty equipment, such as electric carts and automotive lifts. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Wherever you may go this Halloween, it's unlikely you'll see cuter Halloween costumes than those adorning newborns at the Jacobs Medical Center at UC San Diego Health.Babies in the center's neonatal intensive care unit were dressed for the holiday as a way to spread smiles and give parents a memorable Halloween with their newborns.Giovanni Desantiago (hedgehog), Anthony Julian Caballero (Batman), Aniyah & Aaliyah Ortiz (monkeys), Max Waterhouse (C3PO), and Alizae D’Gracia (cat) were among those dressed up as part of the celebration.The NICU at Jacobs Medical Center provides care for newborns born prematurely, at times, some weighing less than a pound or with health issues that require hospitalization. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — With San Diego County back in the purple tier, religious gatherings have to move back outdoors.The first Sunday back in California’s most restrictive tier and Rock Church held five outdoor services around the county, but this is not new for them. The megachurch moved to live streaming of services at the beginning of the pandemic, then added in outdoor services about six weeks ago.In the red tier, religious services could hold indoor services at 25% capacity or 100 people, whichever was fewer. Point Loma’s Pastor Travis Gibson said during this time, they had the option to move outdoors, but with 7,000 people attending Point Loma’s services alone, it wasn’t worth it.“One hundred people is not even the volunteers so this is the best option,” he said, standing outside after an outdoor service.RELATED: San Diego houses of worship told to move services outside by SaturdayHe said they have anywhere from 50,000 to 75,000 people watching their live streamed services every week, with only about 1,000 people coming to this new outside setup, but they’re happy to be able to give different worship options to their members.“There are so many ways to worship God. This is the second time churches were asked to move outside. SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- After a rise in COVID- 19 cases, the governor closed many indoor activities, including places of worship. Churches around the county were forced to make changes to their services, but some embrace the new scenery.Sunday morning mass was held outdoors for parishioners at Saint Agnes Catholic Church. Members brought their beach chairs to worship in the church’s parking lot.“I love being able to see people here, gathered together, and worship together,” says Father Bill Marquis.The changes came after the governor’s announcement to stop indoor activities due to the rise in COVID-19 cases across the state. San Diego county is one a few dozen on the state’s watchlist.Saint Agnes Catholic Church says it is still offering virtual services, but it was the members who requested to have the “beach chair mass” on Sunday morning.“Parishioners asked me if we were going to have mass on Sunday, I said we were going to live stream it,” says Father Marquis. “She says we would still like to have an outdoor mass on Sunday, if possible. I said why, and she said because we want to receive communion. That was the deciding factor for me.”As many churches around the county make changes to their services, some places of worship are working with city leaders to hold outdoor services. Poway officials approved a plan to share park space with places of worship and fitness centers. The City of El Cajon is looking into a similar idea. 1452
