OROVILLE, Calif. (AP) — A 72-year-old man found dead in a vehicle and two other people discovered on a roadway were among the latest victims of the deadliest wildfire in California this year. The Butte County sheriff's office said DNA testing was used to positively identify 10 of 15 people killed last week in the North Complex fire burning northeast of San Francisco. The victims included three people whose bodies were found in or near a burned vehicle. Gov. Gavin Newsom said more than 17,000 firefighters are battling some 25 major fires that were sparked in the past month. The death toll stands at 25 with more than 38,000 people under evacuation statewide. 672
ONTARIO, Calif. (AP) — An infant and her teenage sister found dead at their California home are believed to have been killed by their mother, who left two suicide notes and was unresponsive in a hospital Wednesday, police said. The victims, 4 months and 14 years old, were found Tuesday in Ontario, east of Los Angeles, by their father when he returned home from work.Among the evidence is a "suicide note by the mother indicating that she intended to kill the children and to kill herself," police Sgt. Bill Russell told reporters. No details of the mother's medical condition were released, but Russell said she had been unable to provide a statement. No charges had been filed, and Russell said her name would not be released until investigators speak to her.Details of the suicide notes were not released but Russell said there was "a clear indication of what her intention was.""We do know that the mother was dealing with depression prior to the incident and had dealt with that in the past," he said. How the children were killed was still being determined by the coroner."There was a struggle at the scene which may have played a factor in the deaths," Russell said. The sergeant said the father called police when he discovered the deaths and was cooperative.Asked how the father was handling the situation, Russell said, "It's a difficult time, as you can imagine. It's a horrible tragedy."San Diego Crisis Hotline888-724-7240 1439

Norwegian Cruise Lines announced they are extending their suspension of all cruises until at least March 2021, as coronavirus cases remain high in the US and around the world. In a statement released Wednesday, Norwegian said all trips departing between January 1 and February 28 as well as “select voyages in March 2021” will be suspended. The suspension also applies to Oceania Cruises and Regent Seven Seas Cruises through March 31, 2021.“Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd. … today announces an extension of its previously announced suspension of global cruise voyages as the Company continues to work through its return to service plan to meet the requirements of the Framework for Conditional Sailing Order issued by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,” the statement reads.Norwegian now has the longest suspension of major cruise operators. Carnival and Royal Caribbean announced last month they would suspend voyages through January 2021. Some Carnival voyages are canceled through February. The CDC lifted a no-sail order at the end of October, however a few days later, the Cruise Lines International Association, which represents about 95 percent of cruise operators, issued a statement that they would voluntarily suspend voyages through the end of the year, at least. Then a few days before Thanksgiving, the CDC warned Americans about traveling on cruises and the potential for contracting COVID-19. This followed a positive COVID-19 case on a Bahamas-based cruise voyage in early November. When the CDC lifted their order they announced a tiered approach, which would include cruises with a select group of volunteers to test COVID-19 safety protocols before passengers would be allowed. No word on when those would begin. 1758
