SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - U.S. Coast Guard rescued 13 Mexican nationals from the waters off the coast of La Jolla Saturday.The rescue, located near the Children's Pool, was reported just before 8 a.m., according to the Coast Guard. The 13 individuals, one woman and 12 men, were rescued from a panga boat and brought to shore.Border Patrol officials took the individuals into custody and officials believe they were trying to enter the country illegally.RELATED: One person hurt, possible drug packages found after boat washes ashore in CarlsbadPanga boat attempts to illegally have seen a sharp increased since 2010, according to Border Patrol, as land borders have tightened.Just last month, one person was found injured around several packages of marijuana washed ashore in Carlsbad. SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- A splash of color brings life back to Bay Park Elementary. Over the weekend, parents and volunteers joined together to give the school a facelift. The beautification project now has kids excited to come to school. “They were just blown away,” says Emily Auer. “Their face just lit up. They actually touched the walls.”Bay Park Elementary is approaching it’s the 80th anniversary. The school’s beautification team brought together almost 80 volunteers. The project started Friday night until late Sunday afternoon. Volunteers painted the walls and wooden backpack holders. Parents tell 10News one family donated a bunch of small desks with chairs that now sit in the halls. Behr gave the paint for the project. “Such a wonderful group of kids, so positive,” says parent Erica Krystek. “We really wanted that positivity reflected in the hallways.”The Bay Park Elementary Beautification Team plans to do more upgrades in the future. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Two more women have come out to share their stories of clergy child sex abuse publicly. Cousins Judith Louise-Worachek and Cathie Ray say the abuse happened decades ago while attending school at St. Jude in Southcrest.Each alleges they were abused multiple times by Priest Gregory Sheridan, who is named on a Diocese of San Diego list of priests with credible allegations against them. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Two people were arrested on suspicion of vandalizing a school in the College East area late Thursday night.At around 11 p.m., San Diego police were called to Harriet Tubman School on 6880 Mohawk St. in response to two people seen on the campus.When officers arrived, the two people ran away. Following a brief foot chase, police caught the pair and took them into custody.Police said officers discovered a classroom with a window that was smashed, a vandalized TV screen inside a room and graffiti.Officers also found fireworks they believe the two people planned to set off. 603
