President Donald Trump said in an interview on Monday that he would likely announce his replacement for Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg's seat on "Friday or Saturday."Trump said in an interview on "Fox & Friends" that he would wait until funeral services for Ginsburg on "Thursday or Friday" were held before announcing his nomination."We want to pay respect (for Ginsburg)," Trump said.Later on Monday, the Supreme Court announced that Ginsburg would lie in repose at the Supreme Court Building in Washington on Wednesday and Thursday. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi later announced that Ginsburg would lie in state in Captiol Building on Friday. In a press release, the Supreme Court said that Ginsburg would be buried next week in Arlington National Ceremony in a private ceremony. Should Trump hold to his schedule of announcing a nominee on Friday or Saturday, Ginsburg will not yet have been laid to rest.Trump also said he's considering "four or five," judges for nomination. He's already said he would nominate a woman and was asked specifically about Justice Barbara Lagoa, a U.S. Circuit Judge.Trump called Lagoa "excellent," noting that she's from Florida."We love Florida," Trump said.Trump also reiterated his call for Ginsburg's seat to be filled before the 2020 Election."I think the final vote should be taken, frankly, before the election...plenty of time for that," Trump said. "I think it should go very quickly."Monday marked 43 days until the 2020 election. According to the Congressional Research Service in 2018, it takes the Senate an average of 69 days for a Supreme Court nominee to get to a vote.Trump was also asked to square the Republicans' decision in 2016 to block President Barack Obama's Supreme Court justice nominee, Merrick Garland, ahead of the presidential election."I think Merrick Garland is an outstanding judge. He is liberal, that's OK," Trump said. "That's an election of a different kind. We had the Senate. When you have the Senate, when you have the votes, you can kind of do what you want." 2056

POWAY, Calif. (KGTV) - A North County gun store, Poway Weapons and Gear Range, is part of a group suing the state of California over a law which took effect earlier this year. The law makes it illegal to sell rifles and shotguns to anyone younger than 21. There are exceptions for military, law enforcement, and people with hunting licenses. It was already illegal for those under 21 to buy handguns.Store Director of Sales Danielle Rudolph tells 10News the lawsuit is about sticking up for their customers."The constitution protects anybody that’s an adult in the United States. An adult is 18,” she says. The state legislator who wrote the law says he was inspired to act by the shooting in Parkland, Florida, in which a man is accused of killing 17 students and staff members at a school while using an assault rifle. A similar weapon was used by the gunman in the shooting at the Chabad of Poway synagogue, which killed one person and injured three others.Supporters of the law say it's a common sense regulation to help keep guns out of the hands of those who should not have them.Rudolph says California already has the strictest gun laws in the country and that more aren't needed. She also says the law prevents her store from offering the gun safety and training programs for teens and children that are an important factor in creating a culture of responsible gun ownerships. That's why they feel it is important to sign on to the lawsuit filed Monday.“We’re proud to be a part of it. Anything to protect our second amendment rights.” 1550

PRATHER, Calif. (AP) — A 9-year-old girl who lost her collection of baseball cards when a wildfire destroyed her family’s central California home received a huge surprise when firefighters presented thousands of new, donated cards and put her on the phone with her favorite player. Reese Osterburg didn’t get a chance to save her 200-card collection when the Creek Fire forced her family to evacuate. When local authorities heard about her loss, they put out a call for baseball card donations. A collector in San Jose donated more than 25,000 baseball cards, which were presented to Reese on Friday. She also received a call from San Francisco Giants player Buster Posey."This is the best day I’ve ever had," Reese told The Fresno Bee. "More than awesome, probably." 775

President Donald Trump is threatening to withhold federal money if schools don’t reopen in the fall. He says the guidelines that his own federal health officials have created for schools to reopen are impractical and expensive. Trump isn't saying what funds would be cut off or what authority he had to make the move.San Diego Unified School Board Vice President Richard Barrera contested the president's authority to cut funding."He does not have that power. The federal aid that’s going to schools is approved by congress and under law, it has to be distributed to schools," Barrera said.In the 2018-19 school year, San Diego Unified received about 5 million in federal revenue, about 7.4% of its general fund budget.Barrera said SDUSD "desperately" wants to reopen campuses August 31, but said reopening can only occur if the viral spread is sufficiently under control and the district has appropriate funding for safety measures.Taking to Twitter to voice frustration, Trump argues that countries including Germany, Denmark and Norway have reopened schools “with no problems.” He's also repeating his claim that Democrats want to keep schools closed for political reasons, not because of coronavirus risks.I disagree with @CDCgov on their very tough & expensive guidelines for opening schools. While they want them open, they are asking schools to do very impractical things. I will be meeting with them!!!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 8, 2020In Germany, Denmark, Norway, Sweden and many other countries, SCHOOLS ARE OPEN WITH NO PROBLEMS. The Dems think it would be bad for them politically if U.S. schools open before the November Election, but is important for the children & families. May cut off funding if not open!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) July 8, 2020 1805

President Donald Trump said Tuesday "there would have been no difference three days ago" in the deadly Texas shooting if an extreme vetting policy for gun ownership had been in place."If you did what you're suggesting there would have been no difference three days ago, and you might not have had that very brave person who happened to have a gun in his truck and shoot him, and hit him and neutralize him," Trump said responding to a question during a joint news conference with South Korean President Moon Jae-in."Instead of having 26 dead he would've had hundreds more dead," Trump said. 598
