Millions of small businesses that received Paycheck Protection Program loans have been waiting for answers on how and when their loans would be forgiven. Now, the Small Business Administration has announced a plan that would forgive almost 70% of all the loans it gave out.“The new guidance that has come out from treasury department and the SBA aim to ease the process for applying for forgiveness of loans under ,000,” said Molly Day with the National Small Business Association.The new guidance forgives PPP loans that were ,000 or less, but also comes with a new rule. The rule allows businesses with no employees or businesses where the owner is the only employee, can now have most or all of their loan forgiven.Initially, most of the forgivable portion of a PPP loan was that which was used toward paying employees. The new rule also relaxes the scrutiny requirements on lenders to review documentation from small businesses proving how the money was spent.“A lot of small businesses don’t have employees, or they have one employee and that is themselves, adjusting that really makes it a lot more workable for the sole proprietors that are small businesses [and] are doing great work and deserve some assistance as well,” said Day.The forgiveness process laid out by the Small Business Administration does not have the usual red tape that comes with most government forgiveness processes. Business owners who received loans of ,000 or less have to fill out a one-page document, just released by the SBA, and have their lender process it.“I do think making the forgiveness process easier and more streamlined could help many small businesses,” added Day.With the loan debt hanging over their heads, many small businesses have been reluctant to take on additional debt or put more of their saving into their businesses. Relieving them of the loan burden could now allow them to do so and may result in saving some businesses that were on the brink.However, the SBA points out there’s no guarantee and is still pushing for continued support from Congress in the next stimulus bill. Mitsubishi Motors has followed Nissan in removing Carlos Ghosn as its chairman.The Japanese carmaker's board of directors voted on Monday to oust the auto industry legend, who was arrested in Tokyo last week on suspicion of financial misconduct while serving as chairman of Nissan.The decision is the latest blow to an alliance Ghosn built between Mitsubishi (MMTOF), Nissan (NSANY) and France's Renault (RNSDF).In a statement to the Tokyo stock exchange, Mitsubishi said that the decision by its board was unanimous. It has appointed CEO Osamu Masuko as interim chairman.The move by Mitsubishi ends Ghosn's reign at the helm of two of Japan's major carmakers. Nissan on Thursday also voted unanimously to remove Ghosn, and another director, Greg Kelly, from their posts.Ghosn retains his positions as CEO and chairman of Renault, but the French carmaker has asked other people to perform those roles on an interim basis.The Brazilian-born executive was detained by Tokyo prosecutors a week ago following an internal investigation at Nissan that revealed "significant acts of misconduct" over many years, including understating his income in financial reports and misusing company assets.Nissan CEO Hiroto Saikawa told employees at a town hall meeting on Monday that Ghosn had accumulated too much power at the top of the three-way alliance, and he was concerned this was damaging business.Ghosn has not yet commented publicly on the allegations. More than 200 small earthquakes peppered California's Imperial Valley on Wednesday night and Thursday morning.The USGS reports that 240 small earthquakes occurred near Westmorland, California, between 4 p.m. local time Wednesday evening into 8 p.m. local time Thursday morning. Most of the quakes measure about magnitude 3.0, with the largest being a magnitude 4.9 quake.The seismic activity continued into Thursday morning, as dozens more small earthquakes occurred in what the USGS calls the "Brawley seismic zone." Dr. Lucy Jones, a seismologist, founder & chief scientist at her center, said it is one of the largest swarms ever seen in the Imperial Valley — and it is historically one of the most active swarms in Southern California. According to the USGS, the area also saw earthquake swarms in 1981 (which included a magnitude 5.8 quake) and in 2012 (which included a magnitude 5.4 quake).The USGS reports that the earthquake swarm will continue to produce small earthquakes over the next seven days, and while there may be a few moderately-sized earthquakes up to magnitude 5.4, the system will eventually peter out.A second less likely scenario laid out by the USGS indicates that a large earthquake between magnitudes 5.5 and 6.9 is possible. A third — and least likely — scenario indicates that an enormous earthquake of magnitude 7.0+ could happen, which would cause "serious" impacts on nearby communities.Luckily, Jones said the earthquake swarm is too far away to have an impact on the dangerous San Andreas."The swarm happening now south of the Salton Sea, near Westmorland is over 30 km south of the end of the San Andreas," she tweeted. MILWAUKEE — A new lawsuit claims Facebook promoted conspiracy theories among the members of militia groups and is responsible for a series of shootings in Kenosha that left protesters dead in the days following the shooting of Jacob Blake.Four people, including the partner of one of the victims killed in the shooting, filed the lawsuit Tuesday against Facebook, members of two militia groups and Kyle Rittenhouse, the 17-year-old accused of killing two protesters.The lawsuit filed in the federal court of the Eastern District of Wisconsin alleges Facebook failed to delete two groups — the Kenosha Guards and the Boogaloo Bois — before the allegedly racist and hateful content led dozens of armed counter-protesters to Kenosha, including Rittenhouse."These calls to arms, as one might infer, are not met with the responsible consideration of concerned citizens, but by violent, racist rhetoric in which militia members promise to shoot protesters, their desire to literally kill people displayed publicly for all to see," the lawsuit alleges.The lawsuit argues that Facebook's algorithm allows content from such militia groups to spread rapidly. The suit also argues the algorithm allowed Kenosha Guards' content to be picked up by conspiracy website InfoWars, which wrote an article on the group's call to arms.The lawsuit adds Rittenhouse answered that call to arms and drove across state lines from Illinois to Kenosha with a long gun. Under the command of militia member Ryan Balch — who is named as a defendant in the suit — Rittenhouse later independently shot the three protesters, according to the lawsuit.Rittenhouse is also listed as a defendant in the lawsuit.Facebook received over 400 complaints and flags concerning the Kenosha Guards page and the content it was posting, according to the lawsuit. It alleges that the social network did not attempt to take the page down until after the shooting occurred. In fact, Kevin Mathewson, the creator of the Kenosha Guards page, removed the group himself, the suit alleges.Mathewson is also among those listed as a defendant in the lawsuit."More importantly, Facebook continues to provide militias with the tools to further their violent conspiracies, at a time when we are entering into an election period in which the President of the United States — who openly supports the activities of these militias, while insulting Black Lives Matter and other racial justice protesters — has declared his intent to contest the forthcoming election," the lawsuit reads.The lawsuit cites several causes of action, including conspiracy to interfere with civil rights, action for neglect to prevent, negligence, civil conspiracy, intentional and negligent infliction of emotional distress, among other causes.The lawsuit calls for the injunctive relief enjoining Defendants from future violations of plaintiffs' rights guaranteed under federal and state law, as well as damages determined during a trial.The plaintiffs in the lawsuit include:Hannah Gittings, partner of Anthony Huber, who was fatally shot by RittenhouseChristopher McNeal, a Black man who says he was assaulted by militia membersCarmen Palmer, a Black woman who says she was attacked by militia members when she traveled to Kenosha to protestNathan Peet, a local journalist who witnessed Rittenhouse allegedly shoot the first victimThe lawsuit was filed on behalf of the Plaintiffs by Jason Flores-Williams and Jennifer D. Nearly 1.5 million Ford Focus vehicles in North America are being recalled because of a fuel system problem.The engines can stall without warning, the recall says. Cars included in the recall are 2012 to 2018 model years with 2-liter four-cylinder engines.The recall states a canister purge valve can malfunction.
