(KGTV) -- Bay Area authorities are investigating the shooting death of one security officer and injuries to another after they were gunned down amid fiery protests in Oakland late Friday night.The shooting happened outside the Ronald V. Dellums Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse, a few blocks from where thousands of demonstrators where gathered.A statement from the FBI sent to Bay Area media said that at about 9:45 p.m., a vehicle approached the federal building and a gunman inside the car fired at the officers. The security officers are contracted by the Federal Protective Service of the Department of Homeland Security.The Mercury News reported that the Oakland Police Department said the shooting “is unrelated to tonight’s demonstration.”It’s unknown if police have any suspects in custody.FBI San Francisco and Oakland Police Department continue to investigate the shooting, KRON news reported.The incident happened as large groups of demonstrators clashed with police in downtown Oakland to protest the death of George Floyd. Floyd, a 46-year-old black man, died after Derek Chauvin, a Minneapolis police officer, knelt on his neck until he passed out.ABC 7 News in San Francisco is reporting that 60 suspected looters were detained for further investigation and 18 people were arrested by Oakland police. (KGTV) -- As evacuation orders remain in place, those on the frontlines of the Valley Fire continue to work around the clock -- either battling the fire or helping get animals to safety.The San Diego Humane Society, like fire crews, have been working since the fire erupted. Although their jobs are drastically different, they do have some of the same training.The Humane Society’s Emergency Response Team has been rescuing animals from the path of the flames. The team has helped small pets like cats and dogs, as well as larger farm animals.At one point during a rescue on Sunday, Humane Society teams were forced to turn around as the fire jumped the road in front of them.“It's still scary, you have to understand that fire behavior, you have to understand what's happening when you see it coming down and how far you need to be away from up,” said Lt. (KGTV) - All evacuations and road closures have been lifted after a fire in Otay Mesa scorched hundreds of acres and tore through a pallet yard Thursday. The San Diego Fire-Rescue Department said in a tweet Thursday evening that crews would mop up the burn area overnight while checking for hot spots. No structures were lost in the blaze and no one injured. The fire, named the Caliente Fire, broke out about noon at Otay Mesa Road and Caliente Avenue. The San Diego Fire Department initially reported that crews stopped forward progress of the fire at around 3 p.m., but the blaze reignited moments later, eventually spreading to a pallet yard. According to fire crews, the pallet yard housed 80,000 pallets. Thick, black smoke could be seen flooding into the air from Moreno Pallets in Otay Mesa. Four helicopters, two fixed-wing aircraft, four strike teams and the original San Diego Fire first alarm team battled the blaze, according to San Diego Fire-Rescue. The Southwestern College Higher Education Center in Otay Mesa was also evacuated due to the blaze. According to a spokesperson with the college, San Diego Police entered the college and told everyone to evacuate immediately. All night classes at Southwestern were canceled.
