DENVER – Funeral services for a pregnant Colorado woman and her two daughters, who were killed earlier this month and dumped at an oil and gas site will be held Saturday in Pinehurst, North Carolina. The family of 34-year-old Shanann Watts, her daughters, 4-year-old Bella Marie and 3-year-old Celeste Cathryn, and Shanann’s unborn child, which the family said was going to be called Nico, announced in the Sandhill Sentinel that funeral services would be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Pinehurst.“She was out pride and joy, a true gift from God,” Shanann’s father and mother, Frank Rzucek and Sandra Onorati Rzucek, wrote in her obituary. “We were so blessed to have such a joyful and wonderful daughter whose beauty was that of a doll.”The obituary says Shanann battled Lupus during life and that Celeste’s birth was exciting because of her struggle with the disease. She and her family were originally from North Carolina. The family asks people to donate to the Lupus Foundation of America, the Frederick (Colo.) Police Department Missing Persons Division or the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in lieu of flowers. People can leave messages for the family by clicking here. The obituary says the services will be streamed live at the Boles Funeral Homes and Crematory Facebook page.Chris Watts, 33, faces nine felony counts in the deaths of his wife and daughters and is being held without bond pending his next court appearance, which is scheduled for November.Read more on what we know so far about the case by clicking here. 1574

Defense attorneys for the suspect in the Pittsburgh synagogue massacre entered a plea of not guilty Thursday to federal charges and requested a jury trial.Robert Bowers, 46, walked into court in wrist and ankle restraints Thursday, his second court appearance this week, after a federal grand jury indicted him on 44 federal charges in last weekend's slaying of 11 worshippers at the Tree of Life synagogue.During the arraignment, Bowers watched prosecutors and nodded periodically. He responded "yes" that he understood the penalties of the charges, and his public defender, Michael J. Novara, entered a plea of not guilty "as is typical," he said.Of the 44 charges, 32 counts are punishable by death, a grand jury filing released Wednesday said. The court hearing comes the same day that crowds of mourners will lay more victims to rest and as their memorials continue to grow.On Monday, Bowers had been brought to the courtroom in a wheelchair and only spoke to answer the judge's questions. Bowers was appointed a local public defender Wednesday. He is being held at the Butler County Jail without bond. 1113

DETROIT (AP) — Walmart is teaming up with the General Motors’ autonomous vehicle unit to test driverless delivery in Arizona. The companies say battery powered Chevrolet Volt vehicles will begin deliveries in Scottsdale early next year. At first they’ll have human backup drivers who will monitor the cars and help to deliver packages to doors. But Ray Wert, spokesman at GM’s Cruise autonomous vehicle unit, says they’ll eventually move to fully autonomous deliveries. Walmart says customers will be able to place an order and it will be delivered contact-free by a Cruise vehicle. The retail giant says it’s one of several autonomous vehicle pilot projects designed to chart a new roadmap for retail sales.Wert says the testing with Walmart will start small and gradually ramp up to more vehicles. He did not know how many Volts would be used at the beginning. The company says it started an express delivery service in April and now has it in over 2,800 stores that reach more than 65% of U.S. households. 1015

Detective Scott Mandella is hiking near Burien, Washington. With him are two outreach workers. They’re looking for homeless people who, Mandella says, live in the woods.Right now, he’s looking for someone in particular: a man by the name of Ed Davis.“Have you made any efforts to reach out to the VA lately? What do you got going on man? You deserve a lot more than this,” Mandella said to Davis after locating him.Davis replied, "Well, I applied for the stimulus and all that."Davis says he’s lived in these woods for about three years. It's been three years with no heat, dealing with the elements, and fighting to survive. His story is a lot like others who end up homeless. He made some mistakes, and now he’s paying for them.“Years ago, I sold my house, out in the peninsula. I had good intentions of reinvesting it," he recalled. "When I have problems, I kind of get into a self-destructive mode, and I blew the money. Started doing drugs and everything. You know, I battled with it for quite some time and ended up out here,” said Davis. It may not look like much, but Davis has built a walkway down to where he sleeps, decorated his front entrance, and he even keeps fresh milk from spoiling by cooling it in the stream that runs by.He isn’t the only one who lives here. The outreach workers brought sandwiches and left some for the other people living in the camp, who were present at the time. But Mandella came for a different reason, and it was to let Davis know he has to leave his home in the woods. Mandella says the city parks department is going to evict him, and the others who live in the woods, within a few weeks because of complaints from walkers and people who live nearby.Davis likely only has a few weeks left before he’s forced to leave the place he has called home for the last three years. He hopes to get a hold of his stimulus check and use it to find a place to live.He said he's hoping to find a new place to live that offers some solitude. Solitude he may have to cherish for just a few more weeks before he faces more uncertainty. 2069
