A 22-year-old Kansas City, Missouri, man has been charged in the shooting death of 4-year-old LeGend Taliferro, the Jackson County prosecutor announced Thursday. During an afternoon press conference, authorities announced that Ryson B. Ellis, 22, has been charged with LeGend's murder. He faces one count each of second-degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon and two counts of armed criminal action.Ellis was arrested shortly before 3 p.m. on Thursday and booked in the Tulsa County Jail in Oklahoma.A woman who was in the apartment at the time of the shooting, identified in a KCPD probable cause statement as the sister of LeGend's father, told police she had a child with Ellis, who she alleged had assaulted her a few days before the deadly shooting.After that incident, which didn't involve LeGend, the woman's brothers, including LeGend's father, confronted Ellis at his residence, where an altercation ensued.The woman also told KCPD investigators that she received threatened messages from Ellis through social media after Legend's murder.LeGend's family was on hand at a press conference to announce the charges.Charron Powell, LeGend’s mother, said that she is “grateful that we are in the steps to justice,” but also expressed remorse for her son’s suspected killer and the culture of violence in Kansas City.“This is a lose situation, for my family, and including his,” Powell said of Ellis. “We have to take it a step farther and calm the violence down.” BREAKING: 22-year-old Ryson B. "The arrest and state charges resulted from cooperation among Kansas City police officers, the FBI, and U.S. Marshals. (KGTV) - Southwest Airlines announced plans to begin offering flights to four Hawaiian airports later this year.The airlines will begin selling tickets sometime in 2018 for flights to Honolulu International Airport, Lihue Airport, Kona International Airport at Keahole, and Kahului Airport.Southwest didn't say when the flights would begin service to the islands, prices for flights, or from which airports flights would depart from on the U.S. mainland.RELATED: Southwest says fatal accident has scared potential customers from booking flightsA Hawaii-specific page on Southwest's website has since gone live as well.Southwest is reportedly waiting for federal regulatory approvals as certification is required for flights over long distances of water, multiple outlets reported. Extra pilot training and stringent maintenance and replacement of parts are required for flights making such a trip.The news comes on the heels of the airlines said ticket sales have dipped in the wake of a fatal accident aboard a Southwest flight earlier this month. 1086

Homebuyers who purchased their properties 20 years ago are “sitting pretty” in 2019, according to a study by GOBankingRates. The study ranked 15 California cities by property appreciation rates. Six of the top 10 increases were in the San Francisco area. Two Los Angeles-area cities, Santa Monica and Newport Beach, finished first and second on the list, respectively. The only San Diego County city on the list of top 20 locations for home appreciation was Encinitas. In 1999, the median home value in Encinitas was 3,500. The figure now stands at ,198,000, marking a 248.8 percent increase in value over 20 years, the study reports. The five-year rental income on an Encinitas home is 9,688, according to the study. A 13-year-old middle school student from Elkhorn, Nebraska was arrested on Thursday on suspicion of terroristic threats. According to a release, the student made non-specific threats on a national social media gaming website on Wednesday. After he was questioned Wednesday, he made similar non-specific threats again on Thursday on a different social media platform. The student was booked in the Douglas County Youth Center. Because of his age, his name was not released. Elkhorn Public Schools released a statement: "On Wednesday, law enforcement investigated an Elkhorn Valley View Middle School student regarding a nonspecific threat made on a national social media gaming website. Elkhorn Public Schools administration cooperated fully with local law enforcement throughout the investigation.  Elkhorn Public Schools takes all threats seriously, and in this situation, at no time did we feel students were in immediate danger. Parents of the student affected received an email on Wednesday afternoon, informing them of the situation." Captain Wayne Hudson with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office said deputies will be patrolling schools more closely in upcoming days given the alleged threats. Hudson says law enforcement agencies across the nation are not taking any potential copycat shooting threats lightly and encourage people to report any suspicious activity. "The whole thing of, if you hear something, say something — we need that information. As we saw in Florida, it seems several kids had information," Hudson said. "They knew this individual had made certain comments and certain threats — especially kids.
