The Better Business Bureau is warning the public about “synthetic” identity theft. The BBB says the technique involves scammers combining information from multiple individuals to invent a false identity. It’s said to be so hard to detect that you might be a victim and not even know it.Specifically, the BBB says scammers pull together stolen Social Security or Social Insurance numbers, the address of an abandoned property, and a fake name and birth date. Using that information, experts say scammers apply for a credit card. Initially, they will be declined since they don’t have a credit profile, but this creates a record of a “person” that doesn’t actually exist.Next, scammers add that “person” to one or more legitimate accounts and over time, the crooks build up a credit history until they can qualify for large lines of credit.Once approved for a high line of credit, the BBB says the scammers do what’s called a “bust-out,” meaning the con artists charge their credit cards to the limit, pays nothing, discards the identity and disappears.If your Social Security or Social Insurance number has been used in one of these schemes, it will be hard to detect. The BBB says negative credit reports will be tied to your SSN, but not your name, phone number, and address, meaning fraud alerts, credit monitoring, and credit freezes won’t stop the scammers or alert you to what is happening.“However, unpaid debts left by the scammer can affect your ability to take out loans or credit. Also, jilted creditors will eventually track the debts back to the Social Security number and, ultimately, its real owner,” wrote the BBB in a press release.The BBB offered these tips on how to protect yourself from “synthetic” identity theft:Minimize your exposure. Don’t give out your Social Security or Social Insurance number if it isn’t absolutely necessary. When a business, medical office, or individual asks for this information, don’t be afraid to ask them why they need it and how they will protect your personal information.Protect your child’s personal information. A child’s identity is appealing to scammers due to their clean, blank slate.Keep an eye on your communications. Monitor any mail, phone calls, email, or other communications you receive. The annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in August was widely panned by public health experts for gathering tens of thousands of people amid a pandemic.In the months since, the impact of the rally is still being studied.According to CDC data released in recent days, 51 attendees of the rally who resided in Minnesota were infected with the coronavirus in the days following the event. Of them, three were hospitalized and one person died.There were also 35 coronavirus cases tied to direct contacts of those who were infected after attending the rally. Of them, one person was hospitalized.“The findings suggest that this rally not only had a direct impact on the health of attendees, but also led to subsequent SARS-CoV-2 transmission among household, social, and workplace contacts of rally attendees upon their return to Minnesota,” the CDC said in its findings. “Whole genome sequencing results supported the finding of secondary and tertiary transmission associated with this rally.”Amid the rally, Minnesota’s Department of Health recommended that motorcycle rally attendees quarantine for 14 days upon return and be tested 5–7 days later even if they were asymptomatic, according to the CDC.Following the rally, the City of Sturgis required government workers to be tested for COVID-19. TAMPA, Fla. — George Streets, Jr., is just 10-years-old and he’s somewhat of a boxing phenom.“When I was little, I always wanted to box,” George, Jr. said.His trainer Malcolm Peck has been working with George for about a year.“The determination, the way he processes things, the energy he has is different,” Peck said. “It’s definitely different.”When George was a 2-year-old, he would walk around the house punching everything in his path.“T trained by punching the couch,” he said. “My dad would be asking me what I was doing. I’d be ‘ha, ha, ha, ha’ punching the couch.”“He punched a hole in the side of that couch,” his father George, Sr. added.And, that’s how he got the nickname — Lil Savage. He’s mildly autistic and diagnosed with an extreme case of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. Boxing has improved his focus.“Boxing allows you to utilize that energy, stay focused, if you’re not focused and you look to your left or right, you’re going to get hit in the face,” George, Sr. said. “It’s going to hurt pretty bad."“It helps him with his attention span tremendously. His grades have improved. He went from being a D-F student to an A-B student.”Lil Savage trains for about four hours each day. He wakes up a 5 a.m. for conditioning drills and goes to the boxing gym after school.The hardest part for him getting into the ring was finding a trainer willing to work with such a young boxer.“No one wanted to train me because I was a little kid,” George, Jr. said. “But when I showed them I could spar, then they really wanted to train me.”He knows the stakes are high with gloves on in the ring, and he wants to be on top.“My goal is to be the best boxer and be myself.”You can see Lil Savage in action later this month. The Bakersfield Police Department booked an Inglewood man Sunday night for murder and sexual assault charges in the case of a missing 13-year-old girl from Bakersfield.Further investigation led police to detain 24-year-old Armando Cruz of Inglewood, California for his involvement in the disappearance of Patricia Alatorre, who went missing July 1 at 11:30 p.m.The 13-year-old girl went missing in the area of Hosking Ave. and Wible Road, and according to police, Cruz is the owner of a white, older model pick-up last seen leaving the area at the same time and location Alatorre was last seen.BPD Detectives located and seized the vehicle and detained Cruz for further questioning in his involvement in Alatorre's disappearance.Cruz, was then arrested, just hours after being detained.Cruz faces 18 felonies and one misdemeanor. Steve Wynn will not be getting severance pay following his resignation from Wynn Resorts earlier this month.RELATED: Las Vegas police receive two reports of sexual misconduct by Steve WynnAccording to a document filed Feb. 15 with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and signed by new Wynn Resorts CEO Matthew Maddox, Wynn will not receive any other compensation. He also cannot compete against the company for two years.The separation agreement also notes that Wynn must leave his residence at Wynn Las Vegas by June 1 and pay fair market rent until that date. Wynn can terminate the lease before that date. Wnny wll also cease to have administrative support after May 31 and health insurance through the company after Dec. 31, according to the document. Wynn's employment with Wynn Resorts began on Oct. 4, 2002 and ended on Feb. 6, 2018. He resigned following allegations of sexual misconduct. The document also acknowledges that Wynn agrees to cooperate with Wynn Resorts Board of Directors investigation into his time at the company.
