Gap has apologized for a map of China on one of its T-shirts that upset internet users in the country.A user on Chinese social network Weibo posted photos of a T-shirt they said was on sale at a Gap store in Canada, complaining that its design left out Taiwan and islands claimed by Beijing in the South China Sea.The US clothing brand is the latest international company to find itself in hot water over Chinese territorial issues.The Chinese government in Beijing considers self-governed Taiwan to be an integral part of its territory and comes down hard on any suggestions to the contrary. China also claims sovereignty over a large swathe of territory in the South China Sea, including areas claimed by other countries like Vietnam and the Philippines.Gap responded to the criticism on Weibo by announcing it had pulled the T-shirts from the Chinese market and destroyed them."Gap Inc. respects China's sovereignty and territorial integrity. We've learned that a Gap brand T-shirt sold in some overseas markets failed to reflect the correct map of China in the design," the company said in a statement posted late Monday on Weibo."We sincerely apologize for this unintentional error," it added. General Electric is under such financial stress that new CEO Larry Culp is slashing the troubled conglomerate's 119-year-old dividend to just a penny a share.GE revealed on Tuesday worse-than-expected results and a billion accounting writedown for its beleaguered power division. Culp plans to split up the power division to accelerate a turnaround.The company also announced that the SEC and Justice Department are investigating the charge, which reflects the deterioration of businesses GE has acquired. The news adds to GE's mounting legal problems and helped send the stock to a nine-year low in volatile trading.In a bid to fix GE's debt-riddled balance sheet, Culp announced the company will cut its quarterly dividend from 12 cents a share starting in 2019. By paying just a token dividend, GE (GE) will save about .9 billion of cash per year.Analysts had been anticipating a potential dividend cut, though not one of this magnitude.It's an especially painful move for a company that long viewed its stable dividend as a source of pride. But years of bad decisions forced GE to halve its dividend last November for just the second time since the Great Depression. GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Wendy Marble has found a big positive to all the cans and bottles piling up during the pandemic."I had all these pop cans sitting around, of course from when they shut the machines down, end of March," Marble told FOX 17 News. "And I decided what can I do with them to you know, make something good come out of them."Marble came up with the idea of using the bottle deposit money to donate a check to Mackenzie's Animal Sanctuary."I love animals, I always have," she said. "I just wanted to help them, and it meant something to me to be able to do it."Marble started with the cans she had at home but then decided to also throw the idea out on Facebook.The response was overwhelming."That went crazy. I had people blowing up my phone," she explained. "I had 50,000 cans at my house at one time."That's when Marble enlisted the help of her best friend Tama Allerding; knowing it would take some time for the pair to return all the cans due to daily bottle return limits."When she showed me the cans for the first time I thought I was gonna pass out," recalled Allerding. "Her whole garage was just full."But, it didn't take very long for the money to start adding up.Marble was able to drop off her first check to Mackenzies for just over ,500 dollars."And then I thought, why am I stopping? There are still people that don't want their cans," said Marble."So I got them another thousand and dropped that off."Autumn Russell-Hubert, the General Manager at Mackenzie's, said the money is a big help."Everybody's just stockpiling cans, and for her to go and actually take pop cans in and collect them for Mackenzie's and other rescues, we just thought it was amazing," she said. "Right now with Covid, there's a lot of dogs starting to be relinquished, so that money helps us, help more dogs in need."Marble hasn't slowed down. She's continued to collect cans all over West Michigan, raising money for several other animal rescues."I think probably by the end of November, I will be at [,000 dollars raised]," Marble explained. "It didn't cost me anything other than gas, of course, to pick them up."Marble isn't sure how long that she will be collecting cans, but is passionate about helping animals in need."I'm doing it for the animals, I'm wanting to help," she said. "I really loved being able to help. It made me feel good to be able to do this. Gun deaths in America have reached a record high.Nearly 40,000 people in the United States died by guns last year, marking the highest number of gun deaths in decades, according to a new analysis of data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's WONDER database.A similar analysis was first conducted by the Educational Fund to Stop Gun Violence, a non-profit gun policy advocacy group.CNN replicated that analysis and found that 39,773 people died by guns in 2017, which is an increase of more than 10,000 deaths from the 28,874 in 1999. The age-adjusted rate of firearm deaths per 100,000 people rose from 10.3 per 100,000 in 1999 to 12 per 100,000 in 2017.CDC statisticians confirmed with CNN on Thursday that these numbers are correct and they show gun deaths have reached a record-high going back to at least 1979, which was the year firearm deaths started to be coded in mortality data.CNN's analysis also showed that 23,854 people died from suicide by guns in 2017, the highest number in 18 years.
