Twenty Republican senators are urging FDA Commissioner Stephen Hahn to declare a commonly used abortion pill as an "imminent hazard to the public health," a designation that would ban the drug in the U.S. and conceivably limit abortions across the country.In a letter published on the website of Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, the lawmakers ask Hahn to ban Mifeprex, and its generic counterpart, mifepristone. In their letter, the senators say the drug "should never have been approved."The request comes amid a court battle over laws that require women to pick up the pill in person, even if they had already consulted with a doctor.Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the Trump administration chose to keep those requirements in place. In May, the ACLU sued, arguing that the laws placed an undue burden on women seeking a legal right to an abortion during the pandemic. In July, a Maryland judge sided with the ACLU, granting their request for a preliminary injunction that would allow the drug to be delivered through the mail during the pandemic.According to the ACLU's lawsuit, mifepristone is the only drug in a list of 20,000 FDA-approved drugs that require doctors to distribute in person but can be taken while not in the care of a doctor.The senators' letter claims that it is "unconscionable" that the drug is currently being prescribed without blood tests, ultrasounds and that doing so could lead to hemorrhaging and death. They also claim that without in-person requirements, women "will be left to engage in the form of "DIY" chemical abortion."However, according to a 2018 report from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine, complications from using abortions pills are "rare" and only occur in a "fraction" of patients. "Orbit is a great product, but it does contain xylitol."Within a half-hour, he said, your dog's blood sugar will start to plummet."They can be lethargic. They can collapse. They can even have seizures," Byers said.So it's essential for all dog owners to check labels, he said."I think it's awful," Lovely said. (KGTV) It wasn't the usual welcome home party for Tyler Priest, a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS)."I didn't think this many people would show up," he explained. "Because everyone is scared in their house, but this is really nice to see everyone."Priest was welcomed home, drive-thru style, in the parking lot of Bates Nut Farm in Valley Center Monday. He sat on a truck as family and friends drove by welcoming him home, staying at least six feet away.Priest was on his LDS mission in the Philippines and completed 20 of 24 months he set out to serve, before he was ordered to return home due to coronavirus concerns."This last Tuesday the government in the Philippines told us all foreigners need to leave," he explained. "We flew through Japan, didn't get off the plane, then through Salt Lake to San Diego."Priest returned home late Sunday night, he said he was checked for COVID-19 symptoms several times before arriving in San Diego."They did check our temperatures too many times, but I guess better safe than sorry, makes sense," he said.Although his return home was abrupt, his family is more than thrilled to have him back. It has been a difficult year for them all."While Tyler was gone his dad passed away and the community has been so sweet," said his mother, Ginny Priest. "Even in this super crazy time it's been nice to show their love from a distance."California Highway Patrol Officer Mark Latulippe was there for the Priest family when Shawn Priest, Tyler's father, was killed in a car crash."He was the one who came to tell me about my husband and stayed with me and my family throughout the day," Ginny Priest explained.Ginny Priest said she didn't know Latulippe before her husband passed away. Shawn Priest and Latulippe played softball together and were good friends. Now, Latulippe has become part of the family."He's just so much more than an officer," said Ginny Priest.
