OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) -- Hundreds showed up early Saturday morning for the Oceanside half-Ironman. The race is a total of 70.3 miles of biking, swimming and running. For one local Camp Pendleton marine, the race meant so much more. Captain John Watkins participated in the Ironman in memory of his daughter, Amelia Mae Watkins, also known as Millie. Millie passed away when she was just 10-years-old from neuroblastoma last year. Since Millie's death, her family raises money to raise awareness about her specific type of cancer. The Watkins raised over ,000 dollars for this race. OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) – A two-vehicle collision on an Oceanside street sent 10 people to the hospital late Sunday night.Oceanside police said the crash occurred at around 11:45 p.m. on state Route 76 at Douglas Drive.According to police, a silver sedan ran a red light and collided with a pickup truck with a family inside. The impact caused the truck to flip onto its side.A man, a pregnant woman and two children were trapped in the truck, while six people in the sedan were also trapped.It took emergency crews about 30 minutes to free the trapped people from both vehicles.The 10 people were taken to local hospitals with unspecified injuries. Fire personnel said at least six of the victims had “critical” injuries.The crash is under investigation, and police are trying to determine if the driver of the silver sedan was under the influence at the time of the collision. 887

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- Police have identified the man accused of firing a gun at an Oklahoma City restaurant on Thursday evenign. Police say Alexander Tilghman, 28-years-old of Oklahoma City, opened fire Thursday at 6:30 p.m. local time at Louie's restaurant on Lake Hefner. In an update sent around 9:30 a.m. police say officers found Tilghman dead outside the restaurant. Police say he was shot by two citizens.Witnesses say the men were yelling at the suspect to put his gun down, but he had large headphones on and was pacing near the restaurant. Witnesses say the suspect raised his gun at the men, and that's when the armed citizen shot Tilghman.Police say three people were shot: A 39-year-old woman and two female juveniles. All three are reportedly in good condition.A fourth person was injured, according to police, after falling and breaking his arm after the shooter started firing his gun.Oklahoma City police are holding a press conference at 11:30 a.m. local time.  1024

(KGTV) — Oceanside's famous "Top Gun" house has been moved to its permanent spot amid construction of a new beach resort.The famed "Graves House" was moved last February to allow construction to begin on the Oceanside Beach Resort, before returned to its final spot last Thursday.In the 1986 action flick, the rare Victorian home served as the residence of the character Charlie. Malkin Properties, Inc. (KGTV) — Farmers in Oceanside are gearing up to harvest a never before seen crop in San Diego County: Coffee.“We have an aggressive plan to make Southern California the next leader in the super specialty coffee industry,” said Jay Ruskey of Frinj Coffee.He began working with farms in San Diego five years ago to start planting coffee in old avocado orchards.This summer, they will finally harvest their first crop.“We tried to choose the varieties that not only perform well, but have a certain flavor characteristic that the consumer really enjoys,” said Ruskey.Frinj has also been growing coffee in Santa Barbara, where they have already started harvesting the beans.Bird Rock Coffee Roasters is the first local outlet to sell it. Their website has one pound of the Cuicateco grown by Frinj for 0.“If the coffee quality matches the price, that's all that matters,” said Jeff Taylor, president of Bird Rock Coffee.They recently sent the coffee to the website, Coffee Review, which gave the Cuicateco a 92 out of 100.He said he has been working for six months with Ruskey to get the coffee in his stores. He hopes to get beans from Oceanside as well when they become available in the fall.“I see a rapid expansion I think it's going to be huge,” said Taylor of San Diego county’s potential as a coffee growing region.Ruskey is already ahead of him, planning to double the number of plants they have already in 2019.“We would love to see another 50,000 coffee plants here in Southern California this year, and expand to millions in the next ten years,” said Ruskey. 1594
