SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A ring-tailed lemur that was stolen from the San Francisco Zoo this week has been found.The 21-year-old male lemur named Maki was discovered missing shortly before the zoo opened to visitors on Wednesday. Investigators found evidence of a forced entry to the lemur enclosure.Someone called police Thursday evening to say that Maki was spotted in Daly City, a few miles south of the zoo.Police say the animal was found in the playground area of a church.Maki was found to be in good health and was transported back to the zoo.Detectives are still investigating the break-in.?? SAN DIEGO (KGTV) --More homeless camps are popping up near a dog park in normal heights. Frustrated neighbors say they're leaving trash, dirt, and causing trouble."They frequent this little corner right here," said Bernie Polanco, who lives in the neighborhood.It's likely one of the first things you'll notice at the corner of 40th and Madison Avenue.  Trash, tarps, and blankets--all signs of homeless camps in the area."I really feel like it's hurting our community, hurting our little neighborhood," Polanco said.A neighborhood just down the street from the dog park at Ward Canyon Park.  There are mounting frustrations about more homeless popping up at this dead end street and bringing crime."They were trying to find unlocked cars," Polanco said.  The problem seems to be getting worse."One possible reason, neighbors say, is construction equipment from a city contractor and vehicles parked in the street that the homeless convert into living spaces."They would attach tenting and tarp(s) to the semi-trucks or the equipment, the tractors to make temporary shelters at night and before the workers would get here in the morning, they would tear them off," Polanco explained.The combination of so many young families and people walking their dogs add more concerns for neighbors."My radar is a little more attuned," said Jeremy Dawsey-Richardson, who lives in a white house on the corner.His house may be closest to the problem, but his attitude is far different. He has a unique perspective to this complex issue because he happens to work at the San Diego Rescue Mission downtown."I've spoken with the owner of those belongings and we've talked about it," Dawsey-Richardson explained. "He's working on finding another place to place them." He says he's seen it all in his nine years living here from public urination to fights, but has also seen the homeless sweep the streets and feed his dog when it got out."Once you begin to engage and get in conversation, the stereotypes come down," he said."I think people historically ask the question, 'What's wrong with you rather than like, 'What happened to you?'"But Dawsey-Richardson stresses the importance of addressing the real issue...affordable housing."Where are people going to stay that they can make life work?" he said. UPDATE: The city of San Diego reached out to us with the following statement:  "In regards to your story on the equipment at 40th & Madison, it’s from a contractor on a City job. San Diego (KGTV)- Parents at several San Diego County high schools have been notified that students could have been exposed to Pertussis, also known as whooping cough. Carlsbad High School confirmed two cases last week. Monday, parents at Mt. Carmel High School were notified that students at that school may have been exposed to the infection, though it wasn't clear how many confirmed cases there have been at the school. “This is probably the most contagious bacterial disease,” says Eric McDonald, with the county’s Health and Human Services Department. “For every one person who has it, when they expose people who have not had or been immunized, they can infect up to 16 or 17 other people.”McDonald says symptoms of a typical cold are a runny nose, low-grade fever, and a cough. For someone who may have pertussis “its the persistence of the cough that should be the number one clue.”So far this year, in San Diego County, there have been over 70 confirmed cases of pertussis. “The number of cases in San Diego are higher than most of California, particularly for infants under the age of four months.”If your child has a cough that lasts almost two weeks, they should be treated by a doctor. McDonald recommends everyone get the DTaP shot to lower the risk of getting pertussis, especially pregnant women in their third trimester. 1347

SAN DIEGO (KGTV)- COVID-19 is causing some changes for voters in San Diego county. Your usual polling location may not be active for the November elections.“Because of the pandemic, it has created a level of uncertainty in our universe,” says Registrar of Voter Michael Vu.Vu says to ensure physical distancing the county has consolidated the 1,600 small voting precincts into 235 super poll locations for voters to cast their ballots.“We just want to make sure everyone does it in a safe and healthy way.”Vu says they will be expanding the technology at each site with the ballot marking machines introduced during the primary elections back in March.“There will be, on average, 7 of those ballot marking devices per super polls location,” says Vu. “But we will also be having a number of voting booths because we will have pre-printed paper ballots for voters.”To help with social distancing and the influx of voters, there will be seven different check-in stations at each site to move people along.On Thursday, the Registrar of Voters office will be sending out sample ballots and voter information pamphlets. Those packets will contain each voter’s designated super poll location.The super poll locations will be open for voting starting October 31st.Michael Vu says the mail-in ballots will be sent out on October 5th. 1332

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A lawyer for the man who styled the hair of U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says he believes she was set up when she went to a San Francisco salon that wasn't permitted to have indoor services because of the coronavirus pandemic. Pelosi is facing backlash after Fox News Channel aired footage showing the speaker walking through the salon without a mask on. But a lawyer for the stylist says the owner gave permission for the appointment and made “vitriolic and incendiary comments" about Pelosi.
