All across the small town of Octavia, Neb., about two hours north and west of Omaha, residents woke up Wednesday morning to find damage from softball-sized hail the night before.Jennifer Rose says the hail damaged her two vehicles."It started like just raining and you could hear the plunking of the hail," Rose said. "And it started started small, like ping pong-sized, and it kept getting bigger and bigger."Roofer Bryan Underwood says Octavia was pummeled with hail causing damage to roofs, vehicles and siding. The hail was so heavy, some stuck into the ground."I usually travel to the bigger stuff so i can try and help out as much as I can," Underwood said. "It's the beginning of the season. Everyone's like, 'Wow.' And we are, too."Paul Augustyn's turkeys were safe from the hail but their coop couldn't quite weather the storm. Neither could his Lexus."Mainly this car," he said, pointing to the Lexus. "My truck is a little beat up. It broke the back window out. Broke the windshield. Basically, it totaled the car."Many say they've already started the process to get estimates, wanting to get in before the roof and vehicle repair shops start booking up. 1173

Air New Zealand gets regular kudos for innovating everything from in-flight services to safety videos, its funky films featuring Hobbits and other famous Kiwis. And now, for the fifth consecutive year, the carrier has come out on top in the annual Airline Excellence Awards, created by Australia-based aviation safety and product rating agency AirlineRatings.Celebrating the best in the aviation industry -- from budget operators to culinary champions -- the awards named Air New Zealand as Airline of the Year for 2018."Air New Zealand came out number one -- or equal first -- in all of our audit criteria, which is an exceptional performance," the AirlineRatings judging panel said.In-flight productThe awards take into account four major international industry and government safety audits as well as fleet age, passenger reviews, profitability, investment ratings and key product offerings."We also look to see if the airline is an innovator trying new things to improve the passenger experience," says Geoffrey Thomas, editor-in-chief of AirlineRatings.com.In the premium stakes, Singapore Airlines took top spot for First Class -- the airline's name being "synonymous with excellence of in-flight product," according to AirlineRatings.Best Business Class went to Virgin Australia for the second consecutive year -- Virgin's "The Business" suite is a luxurious offering -- unrivaled by other executive options.AirlineRatings also reviewed the economy options -- Air New Zealand won Best Premium Economy, whilst Best Economy went to Korean Air in recognition of its spacious seats."Our editorial team places significant importance on premium economy on a long-haul airline," says Thomas. "It is without doubt the best value proposition for the passenger and airline.Australian airline Qantas also had a good run, winning Best Catering, Best Lounges and Best Domestic Class.Seven-star safetyAlongside the Airline Excellence Award winners, AirlineRatings announced its Top 10 airlines for 2018.The carriers named in the round-up have a seven-star safety rating and have demonstrated their innovation, according to AirlineRatings.''Whether number one or number 10 these airlines are the best of the best -- the elite in aviation," the judging team commented. "They are the trendsetters and the benchmark by which all others are judged."AirlineRatings says its judging team includes experts who've been assessing the world of aviation for 20 years. While the top airline list favors antipodean carriers, Thomas insists the process is "objective and not open to abuse," with criteria assessed carefully and combined into a spreadsheet to arrive at the award-winners.AirlineRatings.com's top 10 airlines for 20181. Amazon just raised its minimum wage to , but that's not enough for some progressive politicians.Sens. Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders sent a letter to Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos on Tuesday scolding the company for allegedly distributing a 45-minute instructional video to managers at recently-acquired grocery chain Whole Foods on how to defuse union organizing."Workers' rights do not stop at the minimum wage, and raising the pay of your lowest-paid workers, while important, does not give you a free pass to engage in potentially illegal anti-union behavior," Massachusetts Democrat Warren and Vermont independent Sanders wrote.Amazon did not immediately return a request for comment. The letter comes as Warren prepares for an all-but-certain bid for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination. She has ramped up travel to early-voting states and told a crowd at a Massachusetts town hall two weeks ago that after the midterms she will "take a hard look at running for president."Warren this week released the results of a DNA test intended to combat President Donald Trump labeling her "Pocahontas" over Warren being listed in 1980s and 1990s law school faculty handbooks as Native American. Her political team has also turned Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell's 2017 admonishment that Warren was warned against reading a letter from Coretta Scott King criticizing Jeff Sessions on the Senate floor, but "nevertheless, she persisted," into a slogan. It handed out printed "PERSIST" signs at Netroots Nation, a major progressive gathering, in New Orleans in August. The aggressive moves are intended to make Warren's intentions clear to progressives -- and demonstrate that she is capable of fighting powerful Republicans — as Democrats prepare for a wide-open presidential nominating contest that more than two dozen mayors, governors, senators and House members are considering entering. In announcing its minimum wage, Amazon said it had "listened to our critics." Most prominent among them was former Democratic presidential candidate Sanders, who introduced legislation aimed squarely at charging the Seattle e-commerce giant for any safety net benefits its employees used. The letter to Bezos refers to a video?originally reported by Gizmodo in early September that allegedly told team leaders how to recognize signs of unrest among workers, and provided arguments for why a union would not be in the interests of the company or its workforce."Our business model is built upon speed, innovation, and customer obsession—things that are generally not associated with unions," the video said, according to Gizmodo. "When we lose sight of those critical focus areas we jeopardize everyone's job security: yours, mine, and the associates'."The senators' letter raised concerns that, if genuine, the video would constitute violations of the National Labor Relations Act, the law that protects worker organizing. Specifically, suggestions that a facility might close down if employees organize and any attempt to spy on union activity could be grounds for a complaint to the National Labor Relations Board. No recent charges appear on the Board's website, and a call to the Board was not immediately returned. The senators requested the full video distributed by Amazon to Whole Foods managers, any other materials pertaining to organizing activities and a list of law firms and consultants the company may have retained to help tamp down labor unrest. The Wall Street Journal reported in September that a nascent union organizing campaign was underway at Whole Foods.Unions are relatively rare in the industry, representing only 5% of retail workers in 2017, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.Warren, long a critic of large banks and corporations, also sent a letter Tuesday taking hedge funds to task for their roles in the bankruptcy of Toys 'R' Us, which resulted in the loss of 33,000 jobs. 3980

Across dinner tables in America, the green bean casserole is a Thanksgiving staple and has been for years. One month before the casserole's customary time to shine, the woman who created it has passed away.Dorcas Reilly was 92 and died of Alzheimer's disease on October 15 in Camden, New Jersey, the Hinski-Tomlinson Funeral Home told CNN.Reilly was one of the first full-time members of Home Economics department at Campbell's. That's where she came up with what the company calls "the mother of all comfort foods" in 1955.She simply combined green beans and Campbell's Cream of Mushroom Soup, and called it "Green Bean Bake.""Dorcas would often share that the first time she made her famous recipe, it did not receive the highest rating in Campbell's internal testing," the company said in a statement. But she kept at it. And today, the casserole is a holiday feast must-have.Dorcas left Campbell in 1961 to be a full-time mom but returned in 1981 to serve as manager of the Campbell's Kitchen, a position she held until her retirement in 1988.In 2002, Campbell donated Dorcas' original recipe card to the National Inventors Hall of Fame. She leaves behind her husband, Tom; her son and daughter; their spouses; four grandchildren; a great grandchild and several nieces, nephews and cousins. 1305

Actor Brendan Fraser has accused a member of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the group that presents the annual Golden Globe Awards, of groping him at an event in 2003.In a profile in GQ, Fraser recounts an encounter with former HFPA president Philip Berk at a luncheon hosted by the organization at the Beverly Hills Hotel.Fraser alleges Berk grabbed his rear end and, through his pants, touched him in the area between his genitals and his anus."I felt ill. I felt like a little kid," Fraser told GQ. "I felt like there was a ball in my throat. I thought I was going to cry."After the incident Fraser, best known for his work in the "Mummy" franchise and films like "School Ties," said he became "depressed."A representative for Fraser confirmed his account to CNN and said there was no further comment.Berk, still a member of the HFPA, admitted that he pinched Fraser's buttock at the event in question but said in his interview with GQ he did so in jest."The charge of a sexual innuendo is a total fabrication and a desperate attempt by Fraser to rescucitate (sic) his career," Berk told CNN.In response to questions posed to Berk by GQ, shared with CNN by Berk, he said the alleged encounter "occurred in front of dozens of people" and said he "had two witnesses."Berk did apologize to Fraser for the incident, after prompting from Fraser's then personal publicist."My apology admitted no wrong doing, the usual 'if I've done anything that upset Mr. Fraser it was not intended and I apologize,'" Berk said. The HFPA told CNN in a statement that the GQ article contains "alleged information that the HFPA was previously unaware of" and that they are "investigating further details surrounding the incident.""The HFPA stands firmly against sexual harassment and the type of behavior described in this article," the statement from the HFPA read. "Over the years we've continued a positive working relationship with Brendan, which includes announcing Golden Globe nominees, attending the ceremony and participating in press conferences."Fraser said the incident "made me retreat" and "feel reclusive." He chose not to come forward for a long time. In the aftermath of Hollywood's reckoning with sexual harassment, however, he says he's found his voice. He tells GQ: "Am I still frightened? Absolutely. Do I feel like I need to say something? Absolutely. Have I wanted to many, many times? Absolutely. Have I stopped myself? Absolutely."Fraser has in recent years appeared on Showtime's "The Affair" and miniseries "Texas Rising."He will next appear in FX's "Trust."  2587
