SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The Grossmont Union High School District is investigating an Instagram page reportedly used to rate female students. According to a spokesperson for the district, officials were recently alerted about the page’s existence, which reportedly rates the studnts based on certain features. Based on information shared with 10News, the posts rate young girls on looks and personality, among other categories. A parent within the district also posted in a Rancho San Diego neighborhood watch group on Facebook about the page. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The coronavirus pandemic has brought the historic Balboa Park Carousel to a halt. Still, it hasn't halted plans to upgrade the 100-year old attraction."We did make lemonade out of lemons here," says John Bolthouse, the Executive Director of the Friends of Balboa Park.The group started a capital campaign fundraiser three years ago, hoping to raise million to overhaul the carousel. When the coronavirus pandemic hit, they saw an opportunity in the closure."We did the best to take advantage of it," Bolthouse says. "People stepped up, and they saw that there was a need and an opportunity to get these things done."A fundraising push brought in 0,000 in 30 days, bringing the total amount raised to .4 million. With the extra cash on hand, the Friends of Balboa Park accelerated the schedule for remaking the ride.They've repainted several of the animals, restoring them to the original design. The group also rewired the entire carousel lighting system. That included changing over every bulb to safer energy-efficient LED bulbs.It also allowed them to bring back some light fixtures that had been removed for safety reasons."100 years ago carousels were burning down due to electrical fires," says Manager Bill Brown. "It's going to be a huge improvement. I think people are going to notice when we reopen."Brown hired a contractor to help with big projects. He also has a team of four people who help work on the carousel every Tuesday.One of the animals that Brown just finished painting is a Golden Retriever, which has a special meaning to one of the donors."We named the dog Goldie George," says Julie Cowan Novak. "Goldie in honor of my three-year-old granddaughter and George in honor of my hundred-year-old uncle."Cowan Novak's family donated ,000 to adopt the animal. She says seeing the work continue has been a silver lining to the Pandemic."I think the carousel is really a balance for what we've all gone through," says Cowan Novak. "It's just sort of a bright light."The Pandemic has also brought some challenges to the ride.The Friends of Balboa Park had to furlough most of their staff from the loss of ride revenue. They've also put bigger plans to revamp the carousel plaza on hold.Bolthouse also says he doesn't know when they'll be able to reopen. Like other theme parks and ride operators, the carousel is still waiting on the state and county to release guidelines for reopening.But, when they get the green light, they plan to have as much of the restoration work as possible finished."We did the best to take advantage of it," Bolthouse says. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The Carte Hotel in the heart of Little Italy is not nearly as full as it could be.It had been open just a few months before the pandemic hit, "We had a great start until March and the virus started showing up," said general manager Henri Birmele.Like many other hotels in California, The Carte is only allowed to book rooms for essential workers.But staff is preparing for when the Governor says they can fully reopen. "We have sanitizers on every floor, every piece of equipment that's available we have throughout the building to take care of team members and hotel guests," Birmele said Common areas will be sanitized every hour, the restaurant and rooftop bar will be spaced out to make it easier to social distance, valet service won't be available, there will be at least 12 hours and a deep clean between when one person checks out and another checks in and room service will leave orders at the door instead of bringing them in. The Carte is hoping to ease people back into hotels by encouraging "staycations" and planning to offer locals discounts and deals. "How people react, I don't know. I think time will tell. I think we have all the precautions in place to make sure that everyone is safe during their stay," said Birmele. 1270

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The growing concerns over the coronavirus are impacting the daily routines of people across San Diego. Some businesses are changing the way they do things. CorePower Yoga has dozens of studios across San Diego. Monday morning, the company sent an email to its staff and clients outlining several precautions. Chloe Delehanti works out at the Mission Valley location."I've lived through SARS and Swine Flu, and I don't remember it being this serious of a concern, certainly never getting emails from my gym, or travel alerts, so it's definitely concerning," said Delehanti. The email stated the company is increasing its cleaning protocols and reducing the use of props and physical contact between teachers and clients. "Obviously, I really like adjustments and having that component in class, but I think it's a good idea to be as safe as possible, considering that it is a really growing concern, and there's a lot of new cases," said Delehanti.A salon in Hillcrest is also changing the way it does business. Stylists at Brightside Barber will now have the option of turning away customers who appear sick. "From here on out, not to feel like you can't turn someone away, if they are visibly sick with a fever, coughing," said Angelic Corona. She's been in the business ten years and said she's never seen anything like this. "I was relieved, cause you know, in customer service, it's kind of always been the customer is always right, but in this scenario it's health and safety for everyone," said Corona. A few doors down at Ralphs, shoppers, like Tyler Armstrong, were stocking up on cleaning supplies. "I think it's crazy, and I think a lot of people aren't taking it as serious as they need to, and I think we have something serious on our hands," said Armstrong. 1800
