(KGTV) - A Carlsbad high school teacher accused of "inappropriate conduct" is denying the allegations that has forced him out of the classroom for months.About two months ago, senior Rafa Fabito said his film teacher at La Costa Canyon High School, Speed Farris, was a no-show."I thought he was just absent," said Fabito.But that absence continued without an explanation -- until now. An email was sent home to parents earlier this week confirming Harris is currently assigned to the San Dieguito Union High School District's Administrative Office amid an investigation into allegations of "inappropriate conduct toward former students." Across the La Costa Canyon campus, there was a sense of disbelief."This doesn't jive with what his typical personality is like. I wouldn't expect this from him," said Fabito.Early this school year, student Mary Harris took a literature class taught by Farris."He liked to joke around but never made anyone feel uncomfortable. Just a happy, fine guy," said Harris.Some parents told 10News they were upset it took months for the school district to inform them. As for the teacher at the center of the probe, he agreed to talk to 10News. By phone, Farris told 10News he couldn't say much, but did maintain his innocence. "These allegations are false. They're unwarranted. I've cooperated with the district investigation as much as possible. This whole process is ruining my life and my career," said Farris. 10News reached out to the San Dieguito Union High School District to find out why it took several months to inform parents, and is waiting to hear back. (KGTV) - Wednesday kids tried out for the reboot of Kids Say the Darndest Things during a casting call at Legoland.Some families were selected as they entered or left Legoland, while other families sought out the try-outs.Representatives say hundreds of children were interviewed to see if they are a good fit for the national show, hosted by Tiffany Haddish.The kids, age 4-11, waited in a tent with their parents to be called in. "They come in and let it go and it is just the most hilarious thing ever," Casting Producer Cevin Middleton said. (KGTV) -- A man was arrested after U.S. Customs and Border Protection says he tried to smuggle more than 200 pounds of liquid methamphetamine into the U.S. According to CBP, the 36-year-old man tried to enter the U.S. at the Calexico Port of entry Tuesday night around 11 p.m. The man was referred to a secondary inspection point when a K-9 alerted agents to the gas tank area. Upon further inspection, CBP discovered 222 pounds of liquid meth worth 6,000. “Drug trafficking organizations have one goal in mind, which is to get their product across,” said Officer in Charge, Sergio Beltran. “Concealing narcotics in gas tanks is one tactic and by utilizing our layered enforcement, we were able to stop this before it plagued our communities.”The man was arrested and the drugs and vehicle seized. 826

CHANDLER, AZ — The Arizona Attorney General’s Office says Mikal Lee Smith, the son of ex-NFL coach and current head of the University of Illinois football program Lovie Smith, has been indicted after a Chandler police investigation accusing him of running a prostitution ring.According to a release, between December 2018 and September 2019, Mikal Smith and Aprel Mae Rasmussen operated and maintained an illegal prostitution enterprise.In one instance, Mikal Smith and Rasmussen allegedly induced and encouraged an adult female victim to “engage in acts of prostitution for over two months.”Mikal Smith reportedly used surveillance and threats of retaliation to keep the victim under his control.It’s unclear how many other victims, if any, were involved. (KGTV) — The last two cottages to grace San Onofre Beach and replace the deteriorated trailers near Camp Pendleton will be dedicated Thursday.The Camp Pendleton Cottage Renovation Project has worked to replace 13 of the 30-year-old FEMA trailers at the beach with manufactured homes. The new cottages are build using metal roofs, composite siding, stainless-steel appliances, and furniture. Cottages are also constructed to include wheelchair accessibility, railings, and wider hallways for service members with special needs.
