VISTA (CNS) - A 24-year-old man was behind bars today for reportedly crashing his car into a freeway work zone in the far northern reaches of San Diego County while drunk, injuring himself along with two construction crew members.Ross Rodgers, 24, was headed south on Interstate 15 near Mission Road in the unincorporated Rainbow community about 10:50 p.m.Sunday when his 2008 Toyota Prius veered over traffic cones and entered the closure area, where it hit the back end of a stationary 2008 Ford F-250, according to the California Highway Patrol.A worker behind the wheel of the pickup truck and a second one on foot nearby suffered apparently minor injuries in the wreck.Medics took the two men, ages 30 and 36, to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido for evaluations, CHP Officer Kevin Smale said. Rodgers was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving and transported to the same hospital for treatment of a broken bone in his right foot.Upon his release from medical care, the San Diego resident was booked into the county jail in Vista on suspicion of felony DUI.The crash led to intermittent closures of parts of the freeway in the area until about 5 a.m., Smale said. 1186
VISTA (CNS) - A man who pushed a 94-year-old woman through a screen door and onto a concrete deck in Oceanside leading to her death 11 days later was convicted today of second-degree murder and elder abuse causing great bodily injury.William Forrest Sutton, 68, is scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 17. On April 16, 2016, 94-year-old Margaret Wood went to her friend's home to get some belongings and got into an argument with Sutton, her friend's caretaker.Surveillance video of the altercation shows Sutton pushing Wood out of her friend's home, prosecutors said.Sutton fled the senior community but was arrested the next day and charged with attempted murder, which was modified to murder upon Wood's death. 725

Joseph Mercado, 25, has been charged with battery. The Pasco County Sheriff's Office has confirmed Mercado was terminated after he was arrested on February 28. Mercado and the victim were "NOT involved in an ongoing dating relationship at the time of this incident," according to the arrest affidavit.On February 15, 2018, while Mercado was off-duty, he arrived at the victim's home and told the victim they needed to discuss a "serious incident" that he witnessed. The victim met Mercado outside in the driveway and repeatedly asked him to leave. According to arrest documents, Mercado masturbated in front of the woman. She repeatedly told him to leave. Mercado then used his finger to place semen on the victim's breast, above the neckline of her shirt and then attempted to place it on the victim's lips, prior to her pulling away, according to the arrest affidavit. The victim continued to ask Mercado to leave and she went into her home until he left the property.Mercado was arrested on February 28th without incident.The Sheriff released a statement about the incident: "The Pasco Sheriff's Office ensures discipline is paramount in our organization. VISTA (CNS) - An Oceanside man convicted of abusing his neighbors' dogs, including gouging out the eye of a Siberian Husky, was sentenced to nearly 10 years in custody Friday.Jurors last summer found 37-year-old David C. WARNER SPRINGS, Calif. (KGTV) - Lightning from Thursday’s monsoonal storms sparked a brush fire burning in East San Diego County near Warner Springs. The fire started about 3:45 p.m. at the Hot Springs Lookout on Hot Springs Mountain at the Los Coyotes Reservation, Cal Fire reported.
