We will give the organization and the Secretary-General strong support," Yang told Ban.The UN chief thanked China's backing to the UN and himself and expressed willingness to further cooperation with China.Congratulating China on the success of the World Expo, Ban said he had a "most impressive" day in Shanghai Saturday by seeing the "biggest expo" in his life.Ban visited pavilions including the UN, China, Republic of Korea and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. He will attend the World Expo closing ceremony and opening ceremony of World Expo Summit Forum slated for Sunday.Yang and Ban also exchanged views on Millennium Development Goals (MDG), climate change and other international and regional affairs.

The proposals included creating a stronger voice for gender equality that should be heard by all people, especially male decision makers, she said. Women should be encouraged, she said, to gain the spirit of self-esteem, self-confidence and self-reliance.Chen also urged countries around the world to strengthen exchanges and cooperation in policy-making regarding gender equality.

BEIJING/FUZHOU, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) -- A plane chartered by the Chinese government flew 14 Chinese fishermen illegally seized by Japanese authorities from Japan to the southeast China port city of Fuzhou Monday afternoon, after China's repeated solemn representations.The fishermen were detained after the trawler they were aboard collided with two Japanese Coast Guard patrol vessels near the Diaoyu Islands in the East China Sea last Tuesday. The fishermen were illegally detained after a trawler they were aboard collided with two Japanese Coast Guard patrol vessels near the Diaoyu Islands last Tuesday."Our safe return is due to the work of Chinese society, including the Party, the government and compatriots from all walks of life," said Wang Guohua, one of the crew members.He said the Diaoyu Islands are Chinese territory and their detention by the Japanese authorities was illegal."For generations, we have fished in those waters and so how could they seize us?" he said.The trawler, which was "illegally detained by the Japanese side," also set off for home Monday morning, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said in a statement, adding that the Chinese government has dispatched a fisheries administration ship to the relevant waters to assist it.

  

BEIJING, Oct. 26 (Xinhua) -- China and Azerbaijan agreed to strengthen military cooperation during a meeting of senior military officials in Beijing Tuesday.China and Azerbaijan enjoyed long-time friendship, and China attached great importance to the bilateral relations, said Chen Bingde, Chief of the General Staff of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) of China.Hailing the sound military relations and satisfactory results in cooperation, Chen said China was active to develop military-to-military cooperation and exchanges with Azerbaijan.Safar Abiyev, Azerbaijan's Defense Minister, told Chen his country attached importance to the friendly cooperation with Chinese military and thanked China's support to their military building.
