(CNS) - A teenage boy was fatally struck by a pickup truck while riding a skateboard on a residential road in the San Diego Country Estates neighborhood of Ramona, authorities said Wednesday.The fatality occurred around 7:20 p.m. Tuesday on Barona Mesa Road near La Plata Court, in a neighborhood south of San Vicente Road, California Highway Patrol Officer Jeff Christy said.Two teenage boys were riding skateboards to the east in the eastbound lane of Barona Mesa Road and another teen was riding a bicycle eastbound in the westbound lane, Christy said. He said that when a 20-year-old Ramona man driving a 2001 Ford F-150 eastbound on Barona Mesa Road came around a left-hand curve in the road, the front of the truck one of the boys, who was riding his skateboard in the middle of the eastbound lane.The driver stopped immediately and began rendering medical aid to the victim, the officer said. Medical personnel also responded, but the youth was pronounced dead at the scene. His name was withheld pending family notification.Intoxication was not a factor in the crash, Christy said. 1112

Restaurants in Los Angeles County will be open for delivery, take-out and drive-thru services only for three weeks beginning Wednesday in the hopes of preventing the spread of COVID-19, according to The Los Angeles Times and KABC-TV.Restaurants, bar, breweries and wineries in LA County had been open with outdoor seating only. However, officials have moved to restrict all in-person dining as cases in the county have spiked in recent weeks — just as they have across the country.Breweries and wineries can continue selling alcohol in a retail setting."To reduce the possibility for crowding and the potential for exposures in settings where people are not wearing their face coverings, restaurants, breweries, wineries and bars will only be able to offer take-out, drive thru, and delivery services," the county's Department of Public Health said in a news release. "Wineries and breweries may continue their retail operations adhering to current protocols. In person dining will not be allowed, at minimum, for the next 3 weeks."The restrictions came after county officials warned that further action would be taken if the county's five-day average of daily cases rose above 4,000 a day. KABC-TV reports that on Sunday, the four-day average sat at 4,097 a day.The restrictions threaten countless restaurant owners in the Los Angeles area, as well as the thousands of people those owners employ. Protests erupted late Monday on the campus of the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, after police fatally shot a student who allegedly had a knife.The violence took place around the time of a planned vigil for the student, Scout Schultz, 21, who was killed Saturday. Video on social media showed a police car in flames.Georgia Tech police urged students to stay inside and lock their doors because of "violent protests on campus."The fatal encounter on Saturday happened after police responded to a 911 call at 11:17 p.m. reporting a suspicious person on campus. The caller said the person -- described as a white male with long blond hair, white T-shirt and blue jeans, possibly intoxicated -- was holding a knife and possibly a gun.The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said Schultz made that 911 call. 819
