ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KGTV) - Escondido Police arrested a pastor who allegedly molested a young girl, authorities announced Friday afternoon.John Rodgers McFarland was taken into custody on Dec. 18 by the Escondido Police Department. The arrest occurred in Fullerton, where McFarland lived and worked. Escondido Police say the alleged incident happened in Escondido several years ago while McFarland was visiting family in the area.He has been charged with two counts of lewd acts upon a child under the age of 14. Since 2014, McFarland has been the head pastor at Orangethorpe United Methodist Church in Fullerton, according to the Fountain Valley Police Department. Before that, he had served as the head of Fountain Valley United Methodist church since 1988. He also was a pastor at Surf City Church in Huntington Beach from 2009 to 2014. According to the Fountain Valley Police Department, there may be other victims abused during his time in Fountain Valley and Huntington Beach. Facebook has come under fire for a "barbaric use of technology" that allowed the sale of a child bride to be held on its site.An auction was held on the social media platform for a 16-year-old girl in South Sudan which sought payment for her hand in marriage.Facebook said the post was taken down as soon as the company learned of it, but that wasn't until after the girl was married.According to children's rights organization Plan International, the girl was bid on by five men, some of whom were reportedly high-ranking South Sudanese government officials.Activists are concerned that this auction -- for which the father reportedly received 500 cows, three cars and ,000 in exchange for his daughter -- could inspire other families to use social media sites to receive larger payments.Plan International's country director in South Sudan, George Otim, said: "That a girl could be sold for marriage on the world's biggest social networking site in this day and age is beyond belief."He added: "This barbaric use of technology is reminiscent of latter-day slave markets." 1084

ENCINITAS, Calif. (KGTV) -- The San Dieguito Union High School District is investigating following several acts of vandalism at San Dieguito Academy over the last few weeks. According to the district, the vandalism included “foul and homophobic language, and disturbing anti-Semitic imagery.” The images were drawn and taped to bathroom walls, the district says. “These images have also been shared by some through text and social media,” the district said in a letter. ESCANABA, Mich. (AP) — A bald eagle launched an aerial assault on a drone operated by the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy — which is known as EGLE — ripping off a propeller and sending the aircraft into Lake Michigan. The department says the attack happened July 21, when the drone was mapping shoreline erosion near Escanaba in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Drone pilot Hunter King says he had completed about seven minutes of the mapping flight when satellite reception became spotty and the drone began to twirl. King and two birdwatchers saw the eagle flying away, apparently unhurt. Tracking data indicates the drone landed in the lake, about 150 feet offshore. It has not been found. 723

FALLBROOK (CNS) - A fire broke out Wednesday morning in the garage of a Fallbrook home, authorities said.The non-injury blaze was reported around 5:45 a.m. at a single-story home on Wintergreen Lane off Via Del Robles, west of Interstate 15, NorthCounty Fire Protection District Capt. John Choi said.It took crews roughly an hour and 15 minutes to fully extinguish the fire, which started in the garage and eventually spread to the attic, Choi said.A damage estimate was not immediately available.Investigators from the sheriff's Bomb/Arson unit were sent to the scene, and an investigation into the cause of the blaze was underway. 640
