(KGTV) -- Authorities are warning Americans traveling to Tijuana about people posing as police officers reportedly getting aggressive with drivers waiting to cross the San Ysidro Port of Entry. Photos from Tijuana Police show officers near the port putting a man in handcuffs. Authorities in Mexico say he’s one of 35 people arrested Sunday for being aggressive to drivers waiting to get back into the United States. The concern was raised this week as travelers are expected to head south for the holiday weekend. Marco Sotomayor, the Secretary of Public Safety in Tijuana told the San Diego Union Tribune that the city is seeing cases that are more violent and more consistent. Sotomayor goes on to say that criminals sometimes mask themselves as police officers wearing fake badges on hats and jackets, demanding money from drivers stuck in lines. "I think you very much stick out if you've never been to Mexico, and you don't know where you're going and you don't know what roads to take, I think that does make you a very easy target,” said Amanda Matti with Daytripper Tours. She says the company has been safely traveling into Mexico for 30 years. Because they travel in large groups via buses and have contacts across the border, Matti says their tour service never runs into these type of issues. "Our driver is usually local, experienced in Mexico, our tour managers are experienced, so I think they know not to target us."Matti says if you plan on going this weekend and don’t have experience, don’t go alone. SANTEE, Calif (KGTV) — The "sprayground" was inconveniently closed Tuesday as temperatures were expected to near 100 degrees in Santee Lakes. "I came the day before and it was 57 degrees," says Walter Frank of Santee. "But I don't mind that it's hot. It gets to 90 degrees, I'm great... I'll go run two miles."Not everyone agrees, and many people were out early trying to get their exercise in before it gets hot. A heat advisory is in effect until 5 p.m. Tuesday for the coast and valleys. On top of the heat, dry and gusty winds are expected in the inland and mountain areas of the county, elevating fire danger.It was 96 degrees in Santee Monday, with a high of 98 expected Tuesday and above average temperatures all week. (KGTV) — A man convicted of murder in Honduras was arrested after border agents say he was caught crossing the border with members of a migrant caravan in Tijuana.Miguel Angel Ramirez, 46, was arrested on Nov. 24 around 11 p.m. after he was caught entering the country illegally about a mile east of the San Ysidro Port of Entry, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Two other men traveling with Ramirez were also arrested, one of who had previously been deported, according to CBP.Border agents say Ramirez admitted to being convicted of murder and was released a few months ago. The Honduran Consulate in Los Angeles confirmed he had served 10 years in a Honduras prison for homicide and another 3 years for robbery. (KGTV) — After a series of delays, a project to revamp a stretch of Otay Mesa Road near San Ysidro High School is nearing completion.The city says it expects to reopen the half-mile portion of the road, from Hawken Drive to Saltaire Place, by the second week of May. The stretch of road has been closed since 2016, cutting off access to San Ysidro High School and the 905 freeway for residents of the Remington Hills neighborhood."You either hit all the stoplights going all the way out over to Picador (Blvd), or you have to go all the way around through San Ysidro, 805 to the 905," said Benjamin Bribiesca, who says the detour adds upwards of 15 to 20 minutes to his daily commute to his job in Eastlake.The city says some of the final work to be done includes grading, repaving, adding anti-graffiti materials, re-vegetation and some sidewalk improvements. The .5 million project also added a protected sidewalk for San Ysidro High School students, who for more than a decade had been walking on a dirt path close to cars passing on the winding road.The project was delayed more than a year due to the addition of a water line, relocation of utilities, poor soil conditions, unseasonably rainy winters, and an April to July moratorium due to cooper's hawk nesting season. 1306
