SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The Downtown San Diego Partnership is relaunching a program to help businesses impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.A new round of the organization's Downtown Loyalty program launches at noon on Tuesday. It allows people to buy discounted gift cards to some of downtown's most recognizable restaurants, coffee shops, retail, and services."It's a digital gift card sale," said Sarah Brothers, marketing and communications director for the Downtown San Diego Partnership. "So you're able to buy a gift card to your favorite downtown locations. And for every purchase, you get a free funded by philanthropy."It allows the customer to get more than what they paid for, and it's extra revenue for the business at the receiving end.The program is made possible through fundraising and donations.The first round of the Downtown Loyalty program's gift card sale sold out in four days when it launched in July. It provided nearly ,000 in direct revenue to struggling businesses in downtown San Diego. There is hope the second round of gift card sales will have even more significant impact, with nearly ,000 to support businesses. 1163

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The City of San Diego is moving forward with a plan to underground utilities in eight neighborhoods throughout the city. In a meeting Monday, San Diego’s City Council voted to establish underground utility districts. The district's would include the neighborhoods of Otay Mesa-Nestor, San Ysidro, Clairemont Mesa, Encanto, Southeastern/ Skyline-Paradise Hills, College Area, Navajo, and Mid-City: Eastern Area. So far, the City of San Diego has moved roughly 400 miles of utilities underground. RELATED: SDG&E moves 20 miles of power lines undergroundAlthough Monday's meeting marked the first step in the process, the city says construction won’t begin for several more years. In total, the project is estimated to cost more than .2 million, including .5 million for the electrical utility work and .7 for related work, including administration, streetlight replacement, street resurfacing and related work. Recently, the city increased staff to accommodate more undergrounding districts and increase customer service. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation are looking for two women they say walked away from the Custody to Community Transitional Reentry Program.The department says, while conducting a room search Thursday, staff discovered a cell phone in a room shared by Karen Flores, 26, and Gisselle Rivas, 20.A short while later, it was discovered that both women removed their ankle monitors and walked away from the facility.Flores is a Hispanic female, 5 feet, 1 inch tall, weighing 168 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. Authorities say she was serving more than two years at the facility for second-degree burglary and grand theft.Rivas is a Hispanic female, 5 feet, 1 inch tall, weighing 148 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The newest cheetah cub at the San Diego Zoo has begun a training program to become one of the zoo's animal ambassadors.10News was taken inside the cheetah habitat Wednesday for a behind-the-scenes look at the process, focusing on a five-month-old cub, Roketi."She actually came from a litter of six at a zoo in Texas," said Nicki Boyd, the zoo's Behavior Husbandry Manager. "Unfortunately, she was the runt and not thriving. She had five brothers who were stealing all the milk."Because Roketi could have died by staying with her mother and siblings, she was removed and reared by humans, then sent to the San Diego Zoo.Because of her comfort level with people, Roketi was chosen to train as an animal ambassador. That means she'll be part of the "Animals in Action" program, which gives visitors a closer view and more interactive experience with zoo animals.Many visitors are surprised to see dogs in the habitat with cheetahs, but experts say the dogs help young cheetahs adjust, play, and learn how to interact with humans.The training can take months. "We don't just throw them in together," explained Charmaine Davis, who heads the program. "It's a process. It's all this passive training, day by day."Davis says they use dogs of several different breeds. More important is to find dogs which are the appropriate size to play with a cheetah, not too big or too small.Davis says the zoo is proud to use rescue dogs. "We try, best we can, to find them in the local shelters, giving them a forever home here at the San Diego Zoo with a beautiful, spotted cheetah." 1595
