The incident began after San Diego Police were called to the scene to investigate a death at 50th and Wightman Streets around 2 p.m. Shortly after police arrived, San Diego Fire Rescue says bomb units responded to the area after what is believed to be a military ordnance was discovered. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — SDG&E announced Fire Safe 3.0 innovations to advance wildfire safety at its headquarters in Kearny Mesa Tuesday.It's the power company's plan to use more advanced technologies to improve wildfire safety. Instead of using weather data updated every 10 minutes, they utilize data updated every 30 seconds instead. SDG&E's chief meteorologist explained they're using artificial intelligence-based models that make weather data more accurate and they're monitoring more than 500,000 trees in the area using a "Vegetation Risk Index."It helps determine how those trees might impact power lines or become fuel for fires. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Symphony's new bayside concert venue is set to open just as San Diego's summer begins.Once completed in July 2020, Bayside Performance Park will be the first and only permanent waterfront venue on the west coast, according to the symphony's latest post online. The recent post also offered a more detailed look at the performance park's layout along San Diego Bay.The venue, which started construction in September 2019, will replace the current facilities in Embarcadero Marina Park South with a new, 13,000-square-foot covered stage, six levels of terraced seating with 13 sections across, a promenade, flexible seating between 2,000 to 10,000 guests, new public restrooms, and other park enhancements.RELATED:San Diego Symphony to start bayside venue construction next monthSan Diego Symphony's new bayside venue clears last hurdle before buildThe stage itself will be covered in a sea shell-like structure with state-of-the-art sound and lighting equipment. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - SeaWorld is seeing an unusually large number of sea lion rescues along the local coastline this winter."Most of those rescued are coming in emaciated and dehydrated," said Jennifer Zarate, SeaWorld Senior Animal Care Specialist.Zarate says since early December, SeaWorld has rescued 25 sea lions along the coastline."Definitely a little concerning," said Zarate.That is about three times the amount they normally see. Usually, rescue season begins in March, so these rescues are coming early. Those needing rescuing this winter are younger than normal, less than two years old. The cause is a mystery, but Zarate says those early winter storms could be playing a role. The big swells may be tiring the pups out, causing them to burn too many calories. The weather may also be impacting their food sources.."The winter storms may be pushing schools of fish out further than seal lion pups can get to. That's probably the reason why they might not find as much fish as they normally would," said Zarate. After being rescued by SeaWorld, the pups now doing well. So far, medical tests haven't turned up anything else unusual. The pups are gaining back weight as expected. Next week, the first three of those recently rescued will be released.SeaWorld says the coastline in Orange County has also seen an increase in sea lion rescues.
