BEIJING, July 9 (Xinhua) -- China and Bolivia here on Friday celebrated the 25th anniversary of their diplomatic relations.The Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC) hosted a reception in Beijing to mark the event.About 120 guests from China and Bolivia, including Jiang Shusheng, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress attended the reception.Addressing the reception, CPAFFC Vice President Li Xiaolin said the years after China and Bolivia forged diplomatic ties have witnessed smooth development of bilateral relations, with strengthening political and economic relations and deepening exchanges and cooperation in the cultural, military, scientific and technological fields.The two nations, which understand and support each other in the international arena, have similar positions on many issues, Li said.Non-governmental exchanges are expanding between China and Bolivia while official relations are undergoing healthy and in-depth development, Li added.Bolivian Ambassador to China Fernando Rodriguez Urena spoke highly of Bolivia-China relations, saying their friendship and cooperation have entered a new phase.He added that the two nations complement each other in many areas, and there is great potential for cooperation.China and Bolivia forged diplomatic ties in July, 1985.

BEIJING, June 10 (Xinhua) -- The world's most populous country is expanding its social security net as China's major social insurance program reached a new high for the number of people covered, official figures show.The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security said on Thursday that the nation's urban pension insurance covered 235.5 million people by the end of 2009, an increase of 16.6 million over the beginning of that same year.In addition, 26.47 million migrant workers were also included, which was 2.31 million more migrants than at the start of 2009.Officials note that pension fund revenues topped 1.15 trillion yuan by the end of last year, up 18 percent year on year. This followed the government raising the monthly pension income for business retirees for the fifth time between 2005 and 2009 to 1,225 yuan (180 U.S. dollars) a person.Also, the country's basic urban medical insurance covered 401 million people in 2009, of which 219 million were urban dwellers and 43.35 million were rural migrant workers.Additional figures showed that unemployment insurance covered 127 million people while those carrying work injury insurance reached 149 million. BEIJING, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- China's central government has urged more efforts to be made to ensure this year's grain output, a government statement said Wednesday.A string of policies have been rolled out to support autumn grain production, said the State Council, China's cabinet, in the statement released after an executive meeting chaired by Premier Wen Jiabao Wednesday.Autumn grain production is key for China to meet its annual output target as it accounts for 70 percent of the total production.The Ministry of Finance will allocate 1.1 billion yuan (162.4 million U.S. Dollars) to subsidize purchases of fertilizer and pest control, the statement said.Wen urged efforts to restore production in disaster-hit regions at the meeting, after large swathes of farmland have been affected by floods in recent months.Wen also stressed the application of technology and weather forecasting at the meeting.China's summer grain output declined 0.3 percent year on year to 123.1 million tonnes this year, the first fall in seven years, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.
