(KGTV) - An El Camino High School teacher is working to end child hunger, starting in her own classroom. Kathy Easterbook started a food pantry for her students. Nearly half of the teens at the school qualify for free lunch. Thanks to Easterbook, students can drop by every week to collect what they need. (KGTV) - A New York woman is being charged for poisoning a "look-alike" friend via cheesecake and stealing her identity documents.Viktoria Nasyrova, 42, of Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, was charged with attempted murder, burglary, and other charges for allegedly poisoning a Queens woman, who resembled Nasyrova, Queens District Attorney Richard Brown announced Wednesday.Investigators said Nasyrova gifted cheesecake laced with the Russian-made tranquilizer phenazepam to the victim on Aug. 28, 2016. The victim began eating the dessert before falling ill and passing out.BIZARRE CRIME: Construction workers dragged into ditch in bizarre hit-and-run"This is a bizarre and twisted crime that could have resulted in the death of a Queens woman, whose only fault was that she shared similar features with the defendant," Brown said in a release. "Luckily, the Queens woman survived the poisoning."The victim and Nasyrova resemble one another, officials said: Both have dark hair, the same skin complexion, and speak Russian.According to investigators, the victim's last memory that day was of Nasyrova sitting beside her in her home.BIZARRE CRIME: Fight allegedly breaks out on flight due to flatulenceThe victim was discovered the following day unconscious in her bed, wearing lingerie, with phenazepam pills scattered around her — as if she had attempted suicide, officials said. She was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.When the victim returned home from the hospital, however, she realized her passport, employment authorization card, a gold ring, and cash were all missing. Investigators said those items were later recovered when Nasyrova was finally arrested on March 20, 2017.Nasyrova faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted. She is being held without bail and will appear in court on May 25.According to People Magazine, Nasyrova has also eluded Russian authorities and is charged in the 2014 death of 54-year-old Alla Aleksenko. (KGTV) — Former first lady Barbara Pierce Bush has passed away in Texas. She was 92.Her passing was confirmed in a statement issued Tuesday afternoon by the Office of George H. Bush post-White House spokesman, Jim McGrath.It was reported on April 15 that after a "recent series of hospitalizations" Bush would not seek additional medical care. She had been suffering from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, or COPD, and congestive heart failure.RELATED: Social media reacts to Barbara Bush's passingInstead, she had chosen to seek comfort care. Since she has been surrounded by family members at her Houston home.As "everybody's grandmother" as she would say, Bush was regarded by many as warm, well-mannered, and quick with wit.Bush was born in 1925 in Rye, New York. She went on to attend boarding school in South Carolina, where she met her husband, George H.W., while she was 16 years old. The two became engaged a year and a half later, just before he went off to war as a Navy torpedo bomber pilot. The Bushes married on Jan. 6, 1945.As her husband mounted a career in oil and eventually politics, Bush was a linchpin, managing 29 moves of her family.Her sixth child, Robin, died from leukemia before she was four years old. Bush said "because of Robin, George and I love every living human more," according to the White House archives.Bush was a fierce advocate in her husband's corner during his political career.Before serving as first lady, she served as second lady from 1981 to 1989. During that time Bush was a proponent of literacy, calling it the "most important issue we have." She established the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy, which works to promote preschool and parental literacy.She was also an advocate for volunteerism, helping causes related to the homeless, AIDS, the elderly, and schools, according to the White House.Bush was the only living wife of one former President and the mother of another former President. Gavin Newsom signed landmark legislation allowing student athletes to get paid for their name, image and likeness.In approving the legislation, the governor noted multi-million dollar television deals and highly paid administrators, but no payment for athletes."Colleges reap billions from these student athletes' sacrifices and success but, in the same breath, block them from earning a single dollar," Newsom said in a statement. "That’s a bankrupt model – one that puts institutions ahead of the students they are supposed to serve. It needs to be disrupted.”NCAA rules render student athletes ineligible if they sign with an agent or take endorsement money. The organization said in a statement that changes are needed, but it should not be a state-by-state approach. "As more states consider their own specific legislation related to this topic, it is clear that a patchwork of different laws from different states will make unattainable the goal of providing a fair and level playing field for 1,100 campuses and nearly half a million student-athletes nationwide," the NCAA said. John David Wicker, San Diego State's athletic director, said the legislation could put future Aztecs at a disadvantage. The law takes effect in 2023. 1258

(KGTV) — A woman was charged with lying to federal agents after she was able to sneak past security at Mar-a-Lago with a thumb drive containing "malicious malware" last weekend, according to a Florida criminal complaint.Yujing Zhang, 32, lied to Secret Service agents and made it deep in President Trump's Florida property before it was discovered that she was not on the property's access list, according to ABC News.She was caught with two Taiwanese passports, four cellphones, and a thumb drive containing the malicious malware, the complaint says.Zhang reportedly told agents she was asked by a Chinese friend to try and discuss foreign policy with a Trump family member, ABC News reported. The president was not at the club during the incident.Zhang has also been charged with entering restricted grounds.An investigation by the Secret Service is ongoing.ABC News contributed to this report. 905
