SAN DIEGO (KGTV)— As hospitals across San Diego County receive boxes of Pfizer’s highly anticipated COVID-19 vaccine, Naval Medical Center San Diego (NMCSD) was the first to start vaccinating frontline healthcare workers.“It was exciting; it felt like a big moment. It kind of feels like it has this energy, of perhaps the beginning of the final chapter of what has felt like a long year for most of us,” said Lt. J.G. Catherine Senoyuit, a staff nurse in the Emergency Department at NMCSD.Senoyuit was the first to get the vaccine in her arm at NMCSD Tuesday afternoon.“It feels like I have an obligation to do everything I can to ensure I am immune, so I don’t pass on anything to my patients,” she said.Like many, Senoyuit was at first a little skeptical about a vaccine put out so quickly, but after doing much research, she said she was reassured it would be safe.“These companies that have developed this vaccine have put in a lot of work into ensuring and sharing the data to show people how hard they worked to make sure they rolled out this vaccine safely,” she said.After the injection, Senoyuit said she was told to look out for any adverse reactions similar to other vaccinations.“Like any vaccinations I ever received, I got a list of the potential adverse reactions which are pretty much the same as any other vaccination,” she explained. “I was held there a few minutes to watch me; I didn’t have any reaction. They told me what could happen, what to look out for, and what to come back and be seen for,” she said.A couple of hours after NMCSD, Rady Children’s Hospital also began vaccinating its most at-risk frontline personnel.“I think it’s a really important step for us to get to some kind of normalcy,” said Brittanee Randle, an Emergency Room nurse at Rady Children’s Hospital who was the first to get vaccinated there. “We’ve seen lots of businesses, people, and families be affected by this virus, and I think it’s important for us healthcare workers to take a stand and get the vaccine.”At this point, the vaccine is not mandatory at either hospital; those who get it will continue wearing masks and receive a second dose three weeks later.“This is going to be a long process to roll out, so we need to make sure we’re still really careful about wearing masks, social distancing, and following all the guidelines by the CDC,” said Senoyuit.Tuesday UC San Diego also received its first shipment of nearly 3,000 doses and is expected to vaccinate high-risk workers on Wednesday.A spokesperson for Palomar Health said they would also be picking up doses from the county Tuesday, and vaccines could be administered to staff as early as Wednesday.Scripps Health plans to start vaccinations for Tier 1 workers Thursday, and Tri-City Medical Center expects its first shipment sometime this week. 2821
SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - With young children fast asleep in their bedroom, surveillance video shows a burglar on the prowl at a home in South Park. Just off 32nd Street, Billy McCowan woke up to a disturbing sight on Wednesday morning."Came over and saw the side door open to the garage," said McCowan.RELATED: La Mesa woman wakes up to burglar in her bedroomA look at the surveillance video revealed who had been on his property. Starting at about 8 p.m., a pickup truck pulls up and parks across from his home. At about 5 a.m., a man wrapped in a blanket emerges from the truck and walks through his front gate.McCowan believes the burglar walked through the unlocked door to a detached garage - a converted office - and grabbed an iPhone. Video shows the man roaming the property. Next up was a detached hot tub room."We had a small TV in here," said McCowan.In the video, the burglar is seen carrying that TV. Meanwhile, inside the home were McCowan's wife, and two children, ages 3 and 5. They were all asleep.Forty-five minutes after the man first arrives, the intruder is seen peering into the children's bedroom. By this time, McCowan has woken up and he's making coffee in the kitchen. The man appears to see him and ducks down, before quietly getting into his truck and driving off. It was a fortunate twist. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — With California's theme parks and other family activities closed or restricted because of the pandemic, pumpkin patches have become an even more popular source of seasonal joy.The patches are able to operate under certain restrictions, though some operating rides may be at odds with public health orders.Cell phone video taken this week at The Pumpkin Station on Camino del Rio South in Mission Valley shows lots of visitors, some wearing masks and others not, and some small rides operating.The owner of the patch told ABC 10News they have a capacity limit of 250 people and require employees to undergo temperature checks and wear face masks. The owner said the location can't make customers wear face masks if they don't want to. As for the rides, the owner said calls to the San Diego County Health Department about whether rides are allowed were not returned. The owner said the rides are sanitized between each use as well.The county referred ABC 10News to California's guidelines for amusement and theme parks, which says all operations must be closed in the red and purple reopening tiers. San Diego County is currently in the red tier.As for other spots, like the Strawberry Fields in Carlsbad, there are no rides but there are inflatables.The owner of Carlsbad Lagoon tells ABC 10News that they've been working with the county ever since they reopened and that there are no specific guidelines for inflatables. The county says that as long as they are not completely closed, things like inflatables, slides, and obstacle courses are allowed.Carlsbad Lagoon added that they sanitize frequently and restrict admission to adhere to social distancing guidance. 1694

The "Friends of Presidio Hills Golf" went before the city council Tuesday urging them to take up the issue. With rising rents and mortgage rates increasing, experts say that trend is about to get worse.“On November 5 my family and I are going to be homeless because it’s very hard to find places,” said Margot Velez.Velez is being evicted from her apartment, the complex she’s called home for nearly a decade. According to Curry’s website, “After receiving an UNLAWFUL DETAINER [sic], the tenant/occupant must respond timely or lose the case. If you are personally served, you have only five calendar days to respond. If someone is served for you, you may have an additional 10 days. Weekends are counted but the last day to respond cannot land on a weekend (or holiday). If it does, the 'last day' carries over to the next business day. There are many defenses which can be raised.”Curry said tenants should know their rights and try to talk with the landlord ahead of time.
