BEIJING, March 23 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao on Monday met with foreign delegates at the 10th China Development Forum, calling on international efforts to combat the financial crisis.     "Only when each nation makes effective stimulus measures together can the world economy step out of difficulty and realize resuscitation," Wen said to more than fifty foreign delegates at the three-day China Development Forum that started Saturday. BEIJING, April 10 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao on Friday congratulated Kim Jong Il, the top leader of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), on his reelection as chairman of the country's National Defense Commission.     Hu, also General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Chairman of the Central Military Commission, said in a congratulatory note to Kim that China is ready to work with the DPRK to further boost the good-neighborly, friendly and cooperative ties between the two nations.     The First Session of the 12th Supreme People's Assembly of the DPRK reelected Kim as chairman of the National Defense Commission on Thursday.

BEIJING, March 20 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao on Friday called for the country's law-enforcement personnel to learn the selfless dedication to the people from Tan Dong, a policeman in Sichuan Province.     Tan, 45, was a traffic policeman in Dayi County of Chengdu, capital city of Sichuan. He died of myocarditis on Jan. 5 because of long-time hard work at his position.     On Dec. 29 last year, in order to save a person having fallen into a trench in a car accident, Tan jumped into the cold water and got a serious cold. Being seriously sick afterwards, Tan insisted on working, until the last minute of his life.     After his death, Tan was honored as a first-class model by the Ministry of Public Security and Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security.     On Friday, some of Tan's relatives and colleagues were invited to give a report on his heroic deeds in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. The audience were deeply moved by the report and gave applauses to show their respect for the hero.     More than 800 police and citizen representatives listened to the report.     Zhou Yongkang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, met with Tan's families and colleagues before the report.     "He is an ordinary, but great person. He is the model for the police, and also a good example for China's grassroots officials," Zhou said.     In Tan Dong's diary, he wrote: one cannot be a public servant if he has no intention of dedication.     "He did what he said," Zhou said.

TOKYO, March 29 (Xinhua) -- Li Changchun, a senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC), arrived in Tokyo to kick off his official goodwill visit Sunday afternoon.     Li, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, conveyed sincere greeting from the Chinese people to the Japanese people in a written statement delivered at the airport.     "China and Japan are important countries in Asia and the world at large. Chinese President Hu Jintao paid a successful visit to Japan last year, during which the leaders of the two countries reached important consensus to fully advance the China-Japan strategic relations of mutual benefits," he said in the statement.     "Sino-Japanese relations now stands in a new historic point and faces an important opportunity to go further ahead," he said.     "With concerted efforts made by both, I believe the visit can meet the pre-set goal of increasing political mutual trust, deepening mutually beneficial economic cooperation, expanding friendly communication and pushing forward our strategic relations of mutual benefits," he said.     Li is the highest-ranking official who visits Japan this year. Soon after his arrival, Li met with Japanese Foreign Minister Hirofumi Nakasone. Li is expected to meet with Japanese Prime Minister Taro Aso Monday. During his stay, he will also meet with leaders of ruling and opposition parties and people from all walks of life.     Japan is the third leg of Li's four-nation tour which will also take him to the Republic of Korea. He has already visited Australia and Myanmar.
