BEIJING, August 1 (Xinhua) -- A senior Party official has called for constantly strengthening the entire capacity and competitiveness of China's film and television industry, so as to push the country's film and TV products to the world.     Great efforts must be made to innovate the sector, regarding both content and the form of film and TV works, the structure and mechanism of the industry, and the means of spreading film and TV works, said Li Changchun, member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Political Bureau. People of all circles should show their care and support to the development of the sector, he said.     According to company sources, it took 2.5 years to build the digital studio. It is composed of different workshops for making films and TV programs, recording, digital processing, film printing and making flash and cartoon films.

He attended the inauguration ceremony of China's consulate-general in Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal, met and reached agreement with the West Bengal's Governor and Chief Minister on ways to deepen friendly and multi-faceted cooperation between China and West Bengal.     He called upon Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and held talks with Indian External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee in Delhi Monday. The two sides had an in-depth exchange of views and reached broad agreement on ways to further implement the common understanding reached by leaders of both countries and deepen the China-India strategic and cooperative partnership as well as issues of mutual interest.

Rescue workers work on the ruins at the key spot of the mud-rock flow in Xiangfen County, Linfen City, north China's Shanxi Province, Sept. 15, 2008A rain-triggered mud-rock flow happened around 7:50 a.m. on Sept. 8 when the bank of a pond holding waste ore dregs burst at the Tashan Mine in Xiangfen County, Linfen City, destroying buildings, trade markets and residences lying about 500 meters downstream.     The death toll has risen to 254, 151 of whom have been identified. The 34 injured, four seriously, were being treated in hospital.     An initial investigation showed that factors leading to the accident included the production and building of the pond was in violation of regulations. The mine also lacked a security checkup, failed to implement the orders for straightening up operations, in addition to the loose supervision of concerned safety departments.     The State Council, China's Cabinet, has ordered a nationwide safety check at similar production sites to root out hidden risks following the deadly accident.

  

BEIJING, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- Premier Wen Jiabao said on Saturday China was confident and fully capable of keeping a good momentum of economic growth this year despite domestic difficulties and a global economic slowdown.     Addressing a seminar for the country's ministerial-level official in Beijing, Wen said this year had been the most difficult year as China faced both global challenges and domestic problems in economic operation. Wen noted the material wealth collected in the past three decades and accumulated experience would help the country to address problems arising from economic development.     Efforts should be made to rein in inflation and ensure macro-economy stability, especially the financial market and the stock market, he stressed.     In his speech, Wen urged local governments and officials to put work and food safety at the top of their agendas.     The development of enterprises and economy should not be at the cost of people's lives and health, he emphasized.     Wen also vowed to beef up efforts to monitor food quality and rectify the food market. All illegal activities should be severely punished to ensure people have safe food.     He also championed the balanced development between the rural and urban areas, saying agricultural issues should be the first priority of government work     The seminar was presided over Vice Premier Li Keqiang.
