The social media platform reports that more than 1.5 million political ads were purchased during that time for a total of more than 0 million.President Donald Trump spent nearly million on Facebook ads during that span. The ads purchased were split between Trump's 2020 campaign and the Trump Make America Great Again Committee — a joint fundraising committee between Trump's campaign committee and the RNC.But even Trump was outspent by Texas Senate candidate Beto O'Rourke. By comparison, O'Rourke's opponent Ted Cruz spent about 0,000 on Facebook during that same time period.It's no secret that O'Rourke has relied heavily on social media in his push to turn Texas blue. The outlet reports that the demonstrators at times blocked traffic and set off fireworks, but the protests remained mostly peaceful.WRC-TV in Washington reports that three people were arrested in connection with the demonstrations on Tuesday night. One person was charged with disorderly conduct, while two others were arrested following an "assault incident." It's unclear if or how that assault was linked to the protests.The Washington Post reports that the D.C. protests included one incident where a man tussled with police at Black Lives Matter Plaza.The rest of the U.S. was also largely free of civil unrest. The Associated Press reports that there were "scattered protests" in large cities, including in New York City and Seattle.Officials in some major U.S. cities feared protests would grow violent as returns trickled in. But people living in low-income neighborhoods are waiting longer to get help.A new nationwide study released by the University of California San Francisco looked at more than 63,000 cardiac arrest cases and found, on average, it took ambulances nearly four minutes longer to get to patients in low-income neighborhoods compared to rich neighborhoods.“Ambulance response times is really, really important for health outcomes with regards to heart attacks,” says Andrew Friedson, an assistant professor of economics with the University of Colorado Denver.In fact, each minute delayed increases the odd that patient will not survive.“If you live in a wealthier area, your life expectancy is much longer than someone who lives in a poorer area,” Friedson says. “And this paper is starting to get into the mechanism as to one of the reasons this may be the case and that is ambulances tend to be a lot faster in area that are richer opposed to areas that are poorer.”Friedson, who studies economic disparities in healthcare, says one of the biggest reasons behind the difference in ambulance response times has to do with money.“You have a lot more specialty centers that are opening up in wealthier areas and you have hospitals that are closing in poorer areas, so it's not a question of the ambulances are going slower, but it's that the ambulances have further to travel.”With those hospital closures and the rising cost of health care, the authors of the study hope the report will start a conversation about what can be done to help vulnerable patients. 1593

In another sign of the times for retail, Lowe's is closing 51 North American stores.The home improvement chain said Monday that locations are underperforming and the decision will help the hardware chain focus on its most profitable stores and "improve the overall health of its store portfolio."Lowe's (LOW) is shutting down 20 stores in the U.S. and 31 in Canada. The company said that a "majority" of the shuttered stores are within 10 miles of another Lowe's location.The stores will be closed before Feb. 1, 2019. The company will try to find jobs at nearby stores for its employees affected by the closings."We believe our people are the foundation of our business and essential to our future growth," said CEO Marvin R. Ellison.Lowe's is struggling to keep up with its larger rival Home Depot.
