ANAHEIM, Calif. (KGTV) - Several Downtown Disney businesses will shutter their doors this summer to make room for a new 700-room hotel near Disneyland.The hotel will occupy the west end of the district, offering guests a new gateway to Disneyland via the park's iconic monorail.In the process, several businesses will close in Downtown Disney: AMC 12 Theatres, Rainforest Cafe, ESPN Zone, Earl of Sandwich, Alamo Rent-a-Car, and the west-end Starbucks.RELATED: Take a virtual walk through Disney Parks with new 360-degree panoramas on Google Street ViewDisney Vacation Club and Walt Disney Travel Company offices in the area will also be relocated. "Our plans represent our commitment to Anaheim and continued growth and transformation of Downtown Disney, and future Disneyland Resort, including our new hotel, which will create 2,500 jobs between construction and operation," Suzi Brown, a Disneyland Resort spokesperson, said. Tired of the lack of normalcy, the closed public spaces, the news that we are trending in the wrong direction with this pandemic?COVID-19 fatigue is a real thing, and it’s affecting billions of people around the world.“It’s a very uncomfortable experience for us as human beings to not have a plan and not know how is this going to turn out,” said Dr. Kaye Hermanson.Hermanson is a clinical psychologist at UC Davis Health and compares the emotional fatigue to climbing a mountain. You have just spent hours hiking up, and just when you think you have hit the peak, you realize it is a false summit and see this daunting second hill in front of you.That sinking feeling knowing you have done so much, yet still have so much longer to go, is what Hermanson says this second spike in COVID-19 numbers can feel like."We’re actually hoping for the absence of something,” said Hermanson. "Not getting sick isn’t quite as reinforcing as something that happens where we’re like, ‘Oh, I did this behavior and it resulted in this good outcome.'"“[Fatigue] can be internal, where you feel like you’ve got these sandbags on your shoulders and you can’t take another step,” added Bob Ciampi.Ciampi is a licensed clinical social worker and says the feeling is something a lot of us are familiar with: burnout. The same kind you might feel at work or at home when you are overwhelmed.To ‘refill the tank,’ many people might go out for a night of fun with friends, or go to the gym, but COVID-19 has closed many of these places nationwide only exacerbating the issue. So, it begs the question: what can we do?“The things that we need to do are be aware of our thinking,” said Dr. Hermanson. "To say I’ll control what I can control. I’ll take it a minute at a time.”“Some people call that bite-sized pieces,” added Ciampi.Ciampi and Hermanson say the idea is to make things more manageable. Instead of looking at the daunting whole, they suggest breaking it up into more attainable parts.Small victories can help give that reinforcement. “It can be a little bit of learned helplessness,” she said. “It’s the idea that in certain circumstances where we feel like nothing we do is good enough, nothing that we do keeps bad things from happening, and so we kind of give up.”Another thing Hermanson and Ciampi suggest is adjusting our mindset or going to therapy.Hermanson says the simple knowledge that millions of other people feel just like us can be empowering and help push us through. 2494

In the video, posted on Facebook, Santa is seen being thrust forward as the float he’s riding on seemingly malfunctions. Luckily, Santa was okay. Later in the video, he can be seen climbing down a ladder on the float uninjured. An Arizona man was awarded a 5,000 verdict after a jury decided a dentist at a popular dental chain wrongly pulled all his teeth without consent.DeWayne Smith won his case against Western Dental Services and Dr. Steven Nguyen in January, ending a three-year legal battle.“They treated him like garbage,” said Craigg Voigtmann, one of Smith’s attorneys. “They took out all of his teeth and then abandoned him.”Western Dental disputes the allegations. In a statement, the California-based chain called the jury’s decision surprising and disappointing.On a Saturday in January 2015, Smith scheduled an emergency visit at the Western Dental. He was having severe tooth pain in his right upper wisdom tooth. It was his first visit ever at the dental office.“I really don’t like going to dentists but I was in pain,” Smith said.At the appointment, Western employees and Nguyen told him Smith had serious dental issues and that he would eventually need to replace all his teeth with implants or dentures.Smith understood, and under pressure from Western Dental sales staff agreed to a long-term treatment plan. However, Smith said he “made it very clear” that he only wanted to have one tooth pulled that day to relieve the pain.During the procedure, Western Dental staff numbed the area, sedated Smith with nitrous oxide, and then packed his mouth full of gauze, according to court testimony.Smith left not knowing they had extracted all his teeth.“I go to pulling this gauze out and then I realize there’s nothing there on the bottom, and there’s nothing there on the top,” he said. “I just fell to the floor. I didn’t believe what I was seeing.”Employees testified that Nguyen left immediately after the procedure and that no one appeared to tell Smith what they did.After the procedure, Western Dental also sent Smith a ,000 bill, he said.“(It’s) like running over a dog in the middle of the road and driving off,” said Smith’s fiancé, Sharon.Nguyen testified that he had a direct conversation with Smith, who told him he wanted to have all of his teeth extracted that day. Western Dental also produced consent forms with Smith’s signature.But Smith’s attorneys claimed those forms were manufactured after the procedure. And one Western employee testified against the company in hours of damning testimony.Bianca Esquer was a patient care coordinator at Western Dental from 2013 to 2015. She worked directly with Smith during his appointment.In a deposition and at trial, Esquer said that Smith made it clear he did not want a full extraction that day. She also discussed how employees and dentists are paid bonuses and commissions based on how much treatment patients get.Esquer also testified it’s hard to believe anyone would agree to have all their teeth pulled on their first visit and without detailed planning.“You don’t send someone home with a full extraction without teeth,” she said.Smith was not provided dentures from Western Dental until months after his procedure, he said.Scripps station KNXV in Phoenix reached out to Nguyen for comment through his attorney, Jeff Tonner. An online Good Samaritan challenge that's gone viral prompted two Michigan brothers to offer free lawn mowing to people who can't easily do it themselves.Now, the nationwide challenge's organizer is headed to metro Detroit to recognize their efforts.16-year-old Sam and 13-year-old Hunter have mowed 51 lawns in Westland for free since April. It's a task most people hate, especially in the summer heat; but Sam loves it. So when his parents told him about the "50 Yard Challenge," it was a no-brainer.“We get the feeling that we’re helping people who really can’t help themselves," he said.Rodney Smith, Jr. created the challenge. He's the founder of Raising Men Lawn Care Service in Alabama."Back in 2015, I came across an elderly man outside mowing his lawn. It looked like he was struggling, so I pulled over and helped him out. That night I decided I’ve to start mowing free lawns for the elderly, disabled, single parents, and veterans in Huntsville, Alabama," Smith told WXYZ. Two brothers from Westland mowed 51 lawns since April FOR FREE. They’re offering help to the elderly, people with disabilities, veterans, or anyone who may need some help. They get prizes along the way, and once they hit 50 lawns, Rodney hits the road; he’s making his way to Michigan Friday to offer Hunter and Sam not only thanks but a lawnmower, weed wacker and blower.Sam and Hunter’s parents follow Rodney on social media and put the word out that the boys were in.It didn’t take long before they were getting requests.“A lot of neighbors actually were advocating for neighbors they had, that they knew that couldn’t do it. So it was really cool to see the amount of community that came out. The boys have actually made what we think are going to be long-lasting relationships with some of these that don’t have contact with the outside world," their mom Keri told WXYZ.Fifty other kids from around the country have also completed the challenge, and about 1,000 are in the process of doing it now.“It’s just great. Especially when things kind of hit, a lot of the activities they weren’t able to do anymore. We couldn’t play baseball, we couldn’t go out to school, we couldn’t have activities to actually do," said their dad, Kyle.They may be helping others, but the boys said they're getting something really important out of the work too.“It’s heartwarming. We just get to meet nice people that just... that really want to have connections with other people that just can’t really go anywhere," said 13-year-old Hunter.“They appreciate what we do," Sam told WXYZ.
