SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer Monday announced new limitations on public gatherings, as well as bar closures and restaurant restrictions. In the announcement, Faulconer echoed an declaration made earlier in the day by county health and elected officials. During that news conference, county officials announced that they would legally enforce new public health orders over COVID-19. Faulconer said he signed an executive order forcing all bars and nightclubs to close to the public. "This is not optional, this is mandatory," Faulconer said. The measures don't apply to grocery stores or restaurants located inside nursing facilities. All city public buildings will also be closed to the public. During the news conference, Faulconer discouraged residents from attending any non-essential gatherings. The order takes effect at 11:59 p.m. Monday and will last through March 31, unless otherwise extended. The city is set to maintain police, fire, water, trash and sewage services. San Diego Police Chief David Nisleit said officers will be wearing personal protective equipment and may ask people they come into contact with whether or not they are sick amid the coronavirus outbreak. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego County sheriff's deputies fished a man out of the ocean in Del Mar who they say rammed a Border Patrol truck at the end of a dangerous chase.According to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department's North Coastal Station, it all started when deputies tried to pull the man over in a blue Smart car driving with no lights or a license plate.The driver failed to stop and took out a road sign then drove the wrong way down Coast Boulevard in Del Mar around 1:30 a.m. Thursday.A few minutes later, the man crashed into a Border Patrol truck at the dead-end of 15th Street. No one was inside the truck at the time.Border Patrol agents spotted the driver running towards the beach.The man jumped over the bluffs' edge and plunged naked into the water, where he spent two hours in the surf.He was taken into custody after he was fished out of the ocean by a Border Patrol boat around 4:15 a.m.Deputies are currently attempting to identify the suspect. 982
SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego police are searching for the person who fired a gun into a group of people injuring two teens late Saturday night.Two groups of people began arguing just before midnight at the corner of 30th Street and J Street in the Grant Hill neighborhood, about a block away from Kimbrough Elementary School.The gunman pulled out a handgun and shot a 16-year-old boy in the left calf and a 18-year-old male in the right ankle, authorities said.A possible third shooting victim was located at an area hospital with undisclosed injuries, according to police. No further information was given at this time.The incident is being investigated as gang-related shooting, police said.The suspect, who was last seen wearing a white tank top and dark shorts, fled in an unknown direction, police said. 831
SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego City Council leaders Tuesday voted to approve a plan to fund three temporary housing shelters for the city's homeless.Council leaders voted 8-1 to approve the plan. Councilman David Alvarez was the only "no" vote.The largest shelter at 16th and Newton is scheduled to open by Dec. 1.
