SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A local organization is raising money for a good Samaritan that died in February in Pine Valley. Sunday, the It's All About the Kids Foundation hosted the "Be Like Bob" art show to raise money for a scholarship in Bob Bruno's honor. Bruno died in February when he stopped to help a driver on the I-8 in Pine Valley. While helping, there was another accident and to avoid being hit, Bruno jumped over the side of the guardrail, falling into the canyon below. "I think he would be really honored to know that we were memorializing him this way," said Gwendolyn Sneed, Bruno's long-time partner. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A massive water main break in North Park Tuesday morning flooded streets as the neighborhood continues to cope with issues related to the breaks. According to the city, a 30-inch cast iron water main transmission line broke around 6 a.m. on Ray Street at Capps Street. Currently, the City of San Diego is in the process of replacing all cast iron pipes. After that process is complete, the city says it will assess concrete mains. Crews hope to have all cast iron pipes removed by 2023. The movie highlights the bi-cultural relationship between San Diego and Mexico. Ruta Madre first premiered in 2017 and has since made its way around the film festival circuit winning various awards. Now, the movie is getting some major attention and even making its way to theatres around San Diego. Although Ruta Madre has had a successful turn around the film festival circuit, the theatrical release comes at a critical time in the political relationship between the U.S. and Mexico. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A longtime North Park business has been forced to shutter its doors due to the economic toll of the pandemic.A&B Sporting Goods has sat on University Ave. for 79 years. The business told ABC 10News that it thrives off of local youth sports, which have largely been canceled this year due to the coronavirus.Owner Greg Schloss, whose father and grandfather worked at the store before him, said he hadn't planned on closing shop, but could not keep the business going any longer."I've worked here 40 years. The neighborhood is driven by a lot of kids playing ball in this neigborhood. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A growing number of teens report feeling lonely or left out according to a new study out of San Diego State University. The research was authored by psychology professor Jean Twenge and published in the Journal of Social and Personal Relationships. Among the findings:High school seniors who reported feeling lonely went from 26 percent in 2016 to 39 percent in 2017.High school seniors who said they often felt left out rose from 30 percent in 2012 to 38 percent in 2017. The data was collected from surveys of 8.2 million U.S. adolescents between 1976-2017. 589
