American Airlines has sent out letters to roughly 25,000 employees about possible layoffs and furloughs. The Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification letters, as they are called, are required by law 60 days before layoffs or furloughs are anticipated.The letters from the airline specifically say they are taking this step because of “overages we may start to see Oct. 1 when our Payroll Support Program funding expires.”They reference customer revenues being down 80 percent in June 2020 compared to June 2019. The company says they have 20,000 more employees on payroll than they “will need to operate our smaller schedule this fall.”American says they hope to lessen the number of furloughs by offering employees opportunities like extended leave and early retirement. "We know American will be smaller going forward and we must right-size all aspects of our airline to adjust to that new reality," the letter said. United Airlines sent nearly 36,000 similar letters to employees earlier this month. A Ypsilanti teen says he worked hard to buy the car of his dreams, only to find out the car he had bought from a man on Craigslist was registered as stolen. Daniel O’Bryan has been balancing high school and his job at a grocery store for the past two years. He saved up enough money to buy a 2008 Trail Blazer from a man on Craigslist. O’Bryan and his family thought through their research. “My husband checked all three spots on the car to make sure the VIN number matched with the title that the gentleman had, and everything came back fine there were no red flags or anything,” O’Bryan’s mother, Kathy O’Bryan said.It was not until they had taken the car to the Michigan Secretary of State that they found out the car was listed as stolen. The rightful owner of the car is Sal’s Auto Parts out of Detroit. A woman crossing into the United States from Canada has been arrested following reports of a suspicious letter being sent to the White House.CNN and NBC News reported that an arrest had been made, per their sources.The arrest was made at the Peace Bridge in Buffalo, NY, Scripps station WKBW learned through a source.On Saturday, the FBI confirmed that it was joining the USPS and Secret Service in a joint investigation of a suspicious letter addressed to a government facility.
