OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) -- A dramatic arrest of a man following a police pursuit that started in San Juan Capistrano and ended in Oceanside.The California Highway Patrol said it all started around 11 p.m. Sunday night when officers attempted to pull over a silver car that was weaving and traveling with no lights on Interstate 5. The driver never stopped, leading officers on a pursuit for about 20 minutes.When the chase entered San Diego County, CHP officers used a spike strip to slow down the car near Camp Pendleton, with the Carlsbad Police Department's help.The car eventually pulled into the center divider at Oceanside Blvd., but the driver refused to come out. Officers used munitions to break the back window and had a K-9 drag the man out.The driver was resisting arrest and had to be wrestled onto a gurney and taken to the hospital.No officers were injured. All southbound and northbound lanes of the I-5 were closed for about half an hour. 964

(KGTV) -- A 63 year old man is grateful to be alive Saturday night after his sailboat capsizes and he was left swimming for his survival.Andrea Aria was on a trip back from Catalina, “I’m alive for the grace of God. Aria sat down with 10 News and talked about the horrific details, “I didn’t even see the wave until I made the turn and it was too late it was up on me”. The wave tipped the boat, he tried holding on, “I let go and went back in the water and I went under the boat and the boat went over me once then twice and the propellers are going”.During that moment he didn’t realize the injuries he was getting, “I didn’t feel, the adrenaline the cold water the salt all I know I couldn’t move my fingers I knew my hands were messed up “. Two casts on his hands because doctors say, he cut tendons leaving his fingers unable to move. The propeller on his boat also gashed his foot leaving him with 28 stitches.He swam about a half mile to shore, “every two strokes I was getting hit with a wave and I’m submerging and I’m having trouble handling it” Aria tells us.He says just as he was about to give up, his foot hit the sand and he crawled his way to the beach, “I finally made it and there were two police men and they said someone called us must have been an angel”.Saturday night, Aria is thankful to be alive, but he’s now realizing just how much he lost, along with his boat, “the things that I need to function everyday, they’re gone, they’re all gone” he continued, “I’m really without anything at this moment”.He’s now left to depend solely on his faith, “it wasn’t my time, I guess when its your time its your time. On Aug. 26, 2017, 15-year-old Damon Grimes was involved in a police pursuit while driving an ATV in Detroit. That pursuit ended in a crash that claimed Grimes’ life.Reporters at Scripps station WXYZ in Detroit requested video from the crash under the Freedom of Information Act, and received 25 hours worth of video from police body cameras and dash cameras, surveillance video and cell phone video shot by witnesses that tell the story of the senseless death.Officials did not provide footage from the dash cam of the pursuit by Michigan State Troopers, Mark Bessner and Ethan Berger.At 5:31 p.m., video shows Damon Grimes riding his ATV down Rossini Avenue and Gratiot in Detroit. At that time, Trooper Mark Bessner requested priority to chase an ATV.“He flipped. Flipped!” Detroit Police Officer Williams said, video shows.“Yup, tell them there’s an accident,” said DPD Officer Boersman, who was first on the scene.Grimes had hit a parked Ford F-150 with his ATV and he flew off the four-wheeler.“0-9, he’s slowed down, we tased him and he crashed out. Hell no!” Wade said. “They got lights and sirens. We only do that for police. If an officer gets shot we’ll do that.”“I didn’t know they were chasing a four-wheeler,” said Stephenson.Damon Grimes was pronounced dead on arrival at St. John’s Hospital.Due to his insensitive comments, Detroit Police Officer Aubrey Wade was reassigned.Trooper Mark Bessner, the passenger in the MSP vehicle in pursuit, is accused of breaking protocol and taser use. He is awaiting an August murder trial. He resigned from Michigan State Police.The Grimes family has filed a million civil suit against Bessner. OCEANSIDE (KGTV) -- For as long as he can remember, Pino Batallico loved the atmosphere of restaurants. He shared a picture with 10News of him working behind the bar of a restaurant in Italy when he was 8-years-old. He made 25 cents a week.Batallico was born and raised in Italy. All his relatives are still in his home country. He is devastated to see how the Coronavirus pandemic has affected it, with more than 12,000 deaths so far.“I think it’s very scary. It breaks my heart,” Batallico said. In Oceanside, he is feeling the effects of the pandemic through his restaurant Venetos. Pino and his employees still cook up good meals for anyone who wants them.“It doesn't matter if I have a penny or not. I'll still be here,” Batallico said. He said his business is down about 75 percent since the countywide order that prohibits dine-in service at restaurants. He is trying not to lay off any of his 11 employees, although he has had to cut his restaurant’s hours. The restaurant is a place he loves with customers who love him back.“He’s like a brother from another mother!” said customer and now friend, Jesse Teves. Teves said he met Batallico more than 20 years ago. Teves has celebrated important milestones over the years at Pino’s former restaurant in Encinitas and now at Venetos. “He's very humble. He always looks out for the customer,” Teves said. “It just naturally happened that we bonded and he became family.”Batallico said he will cook any Italian dish the customer wants, even if it is not on the menu. Like so many others, he is trying to survive with take out and delivery orders.“Whatever you like to do, we will do for you… to be safe,” Batallico said.His restaurant is open Wednesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. On Monday and Tuesday, it is open from 4 to 9 p.m. 1803
