With regard to the South China Sea issue, Li noted that the South China Sea is not an issue between China and the United States but now it has become a major issue in their bilateral relations.
"Economic and trade cooperation is an important foundation and engine for China-Japan relations to move forward. Both sides should grasp opportunities to improve the mutually beneficial cooperation," Wang said.
"Our interaction is aimed at strengthening the security of our countries, taking into account the international obligations of China and Russia, and the fact that both countries are permanent U.N. Security Council members," he added.
The ambassador said the UNCLOS is not a "constitution" to address all maritime issues.
The prime minister also expressed his wish to further party-to-party relations between India and China and called for enhanced cooperation in tourism, culture and people-to-people exchanges and local-level cooperation.
