ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Carole Baskin of “Tiger King” fame is being sued for defamation by a former assistant. As part of the lawsuit, the daughters of Baskin’s former husband are seeking more information about what happened to their father, who disappeared mysteriously more than two decades ago. The amended complaint to an earlier lawsuit was filed Tuesday in state court in Tampa by Don Lewis’ three daughters as well as his former assistant, Anne McQueen. The lawsuit says Baskin defamed McQueen by posting a video diary entry on YouTube earlier this month in which she says McQueen played a role in Lewis’ disappearance. OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) -- Nichols Elementary School in Oceanside briefly went on lockdown Monday afternoon after reports of a suspicious person on the playground. The lockdown was reported just before 12:30 p.m. Monday afternoon at the school located on the 4200 block of Old Grove Road. According to police, a school employee was out with the children on the playground when she saw an unknown man on the premises. The woman called police and took the students inside, prompting the 25-minute precautionary lockdown. Police responded and searched the area, but were unable to find anyone, at which point the school was taken off lockdown. 650

(KGTV) - The Oceanside Police Department asked for the public’s help Friday to find a missing man.Richard Teller, 80, was last seen at his home Thursday night at 10 pm.Police said Teller suffers from health conditions that require medication, which he does not have with him.Teller is believed to be driving a black 2006 Cadillac CTS with a California license plate of 5YDG829.Police said Teller is white, 5’9”, 190 pounds, with short gray hair and hazel eyes.Anyone who sees him is asked to call Oceanside Police at 760-435-4900. 556

OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) -- An Army veteran sprang into action when he witnessed a man attacking another man at an Oceanside transit station.Oceanside police said the incident happened Tuesday at around 9:30 a.m. on the Amtrak platform at the transit station on 195 S Tremont St.Police said Craig Chaviez allegedly attacked and stabbed a 30-year-old man. When another man -- identified as 40-year-old Andrew Reinicke, tried to intervene, police alleged Chaviez punched him in the ribs and stabbed him in the head area.Reinicke was ready to take a train to culinary school in Pasadena when the incident occurred. The Army veteran told ABC 10News’ Michael Chen that he was dressed in his "chef whites" and reading some notes just before the attack.“A guy rushed up, jumped on top of him and started wailing on him,” Reinicke said of the victim.Reinicke said as the fight escalated, that’s when he decided to get involved.“You see someone who needs defending and you do it. You don’t necessarily choose to do it, you just do it,” said Reinicke.After jumping into the fray and tussling with the attacker, Reinicke said the man pulled out a small knife.“He was punching me in the eye, the ribs, and the face. He comes at me again, throws me to the ground and tries to stab me as often as he can. He ends up getting me right in the head,” Reinicke said.Reinicke told ABC 10News that the knife “did pierce the skull” and he suffered a “little bit of bleeding on the brain.” He said his adrenaline was pumping so he did not feel any pain initially.According to Reinicke, the attacker then accused him and the first victim of robbing him before walking towards buses.Witnesses said Chaviez tried to flee from the scene, but he was arrested a short time later.Oceanside police said the 25-year-old Chaviez, who is from Inglewood, was a fugitive wanted in Los Angeles County over an aggravated assault and assault with a deadly weapon case. Officials with Operation Warp Speed confirmed Wednesday that they remain on track in their goal to distribute 20 million initial doses of COVID-19 vaccines by the end of the month.Health and Human Services Sec. Alex Azar, as well as Operation Warp Speed chief medical adviser Dr. Moncef Slaoui and the operation's chief operating officer Gen. Gus F. Perna, said Wednesday that the first shipments of Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine were delivered largely without issue.The briefing comes just two days after medical centers across the country began administering the first initial doses of a COVID-19 vaccine made by Pfizer. That vaccine was approved for Emergency Use Authorization by the FDA last Friday and was formally recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention over the weekend.The briefing also comes a day before a vote by an FDA panel on whether to recommend a COVID-19 vaccine produced by Moderna for Emergency Use Authorization. Should the panel vote in favor of the recommendation, it would keep the Moderna vaccine on track for authorization by next week.In a report released Tuesday, the FDA reaffirmed Moderna's safety and efficacy statistics that were published following the conclusion of the drug's Phase III trial. Slaoui also said that a vaccine candidate produced by Johnson & Johnson is slated to fill its Phase III trials by tomorrow, and that initial efficacy data for that drug would be available by early January.
