(KGTV) - The Alpine Union School District has become one of the first local school districts to begin mandatory testing for all staff members.In partnership with Cal Fire, the pre-K to 8 school district rolled out drive-thru COVID-19 testing on Wednesday."The number that came out was beyond what we expected. It was a steady flow of staff all day long," said District Superintendent Rich Newman.So far, 65% of all staff -- about 130 employees -- have gotten a test, with results due back within two to five days."We’ve gone one step beyond most districts," said Newman.Newman says while the state requires districts test half their staff every month during in-person learning, his school district expects to test all of its staff every month. The drive-thru testing events will be held every two weeks."We want to make sure we can stay open for our students," said Newman.The testing is one component of a detailed in-school learning plan, which includes plexiglass dividers on every student desk and a thorough cleaning regimen."I had a meeting with the principals and it was very emotional, because they felt all the hard work paid off," said Newman.As for the testing, Newman says the response from parents and staff has been positive."The number one response from staff has been 'Thank you for setting this up quickly,'" said Newman.Newman hopes the testing track down asymptomatic cases and provide some peace of mind."If our staff feels safe, healthy, and taken care of, they can focus on teaching and learning with our students," said Newman.Newman says each class has assigned restrooms and outdoor spaces that will help officials with tracing if an outbreak should develop. 1706

A woman claims she suffered a small cut on her finger from the nail salon she's been going to for more than a decade. Two weeks later, she found herself in the hospital having surgery due to a major infection, and there's a chance she may have to have her finger amputated. The image of Maria Luisa Gerardo's finger is extremely graphic — a wound that goes all the way down to the bone. "I cover my face when they come in here and take (the bandage) off because I don't wanna see it," said Gerardo. "I don't. I'm scared."Gerardo made her regular visit to TJ Nails, a place she's been going to for more than a decade, where they call her "Mama." But two weeks ago she claims she received a small cut on her finger. "A little open wound, here on the side of my finger," said Gerardo.A day later, her finger started swelling. Gerardo went to Urgent Care, where they put her on antibiotics.She went back to the nail salon, and she says they offered her 0."He told me, 'It's nothing. Just clean your hand and buy your medicine, and it will come off," said Gerardo. But it only got worse, and Gerardo had to go into surgery."Pretty excruciating to see," said Gerardo's son Victor. "I don't like to see my mom in pain."Victor was by his mom's side during the surgery and days following. "He cleaned as much as he could, to try and salvage the finger," said Victor. "He told me, he kept cutting and cutting the tissue around her finger until it bled, because that was good skin."Gerardo says a man named Bill was the technician who cut her nails that day. Employees at TJ Nails claim he no longer works at the salon and recently moved out of state.Bill said in a phone interview that he never cut Gerardo's nails and he knew her very well and did nothing wrong. Meantime, Gerardo is looking for answers and waiting to see if she will be able to keep her finger. "This is the only thing I ever liked doing to myself, my nails," said Gerardo. "But now, with this that happened to my hand, I never want to do this in my life."The family reported TJ Nails to the state. After an evening of cocktails in San Diego, a woman got into the back of an Uber for a ride home. She was so intoxicated she had to ask the driver to stop so she could vomit. She says she then passed out in the backseat.When she regained consciousness, the Uber driver was on top of her, raping her, a block from her home, according to the police report and two sources familiar with the investigation.She was able to escape and dial 911.Police later arrested the Uber driver, John David Sanchez, 54. When they searched his computer, they found videos of Sanchez raping women and abusing young teenagers, dating back at least five years. 645
