A total of 173 sea turtles died off Cape Cod, Massachusetts, this week because of the extreme cold, according to Mass Audubon Director Bob Prescott.Prescott said 227 cold-stunned turtles were recovered from the Gulf of Maine since Wednesday, but only 54 lived. A report released from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services says a patient died after a nurse at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville selected the wrong medication to give them, putting at risk the hospital's ability to receive Medicare payments.In fact, the paralyzing anesthetic that was given to the patient by mistake is one of the drugs Tennessee uses to execute death row inmates during lethal injections.The incident happened in December of 2017. According to a report conducted by CMS, the patient checked into the hospital with a subdural hematoma and vision loss.The patient was sent to the hospital’s radiology department for a full body scan. When the patient told caregivers they were claustrophobic, doctors prescribed Versed, a standard anti-anxiety sedative.  The report from CMS said a nurse told the patient they were going to give them "something to help him/her relax."The patient instead received a dose of vecuronium from that unnamed nurse.  Vecuronium is a neuromuscular blocking drug that causes paralysis.  As such, the CMS report says it can also stop the body from being able to breathe, in a painful experience for patients, who remain conscious and aware."Patients can experience intense fear when they can no longer breathe.  They can also sense pain," 1418

A Tempe woman was arrested after her infant daughter ate mac and cheese with THC butter in it. Tempe police report that early Thursday morning, after receiving a report from the Arizona Department of Child Safety, they arrested 25-year-old Alaina Marie Limpert at her home.Police say on Tuesday, Limpert's 1-year-old daughter ate mac and cheese made with butter containing tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, which is the chemical in cannabis that gets you high. A witness reportedly told investigators that Limpert "laughed about the side effects the child experienced." Limpert later put the child in the cold water of the backyard pool to "shock" her, court documents said.Hospital officials later confirmed that they found THC in the infant's system. Inside the home, police report they found two marijuana grow tents, psilocybin mushrooms and many containers of hash oil with business cards attached to them. Limpert was arrested on one count of child abuse. 1000

A suburban Atlanta police officer resigned after his department said he used foul language and inappropriate tactics during the arrest of a 65-year-old grandmother during a traffic stop, recorded on a police dashboard camera.Alpharetta Officer James Legg had been called in as backup during a May 4 traffic stop because the Lyft driver would not sign a ticket and refused another officer's order to get out of her car, officials said.In a letter to Alpharetta Public Safety Director John Robison released Friday, Legg said he felt he behaved appropriately and followed his training."I judged her actions to be passive resistance and used very limited force to end a multiple minute encounter with the suspect," he said.
