NEW YORK (AP) — A new government report shows that since the coronavirus pandemic began, the U.S. has seen 300,000 more deaths than it usually would.The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has been tracking how many deaths have been reported and comparing them with counts seen in other years. Usually, between the beginning of February and the end of September, about 1.9 million deaths are reported. This year, it’s closer to 2.2 million – a 14.5% increase.The CDC says the coronavirus was involved in about two-thirds of the excess deaths. CDC officials say it’s likely the virus was a factor in many other deaths too. For example, someone with heart attack symptoms may have hesitated to go to a hospital that was busy with coronavirus patients.The largest segment of the excess deaths, about 95,000, were in elderly people ages 75 to 84. That was 21.5% more than in a normal year. But the biggest relative increase, 26.5%, was in people ages 25 to 44. Deaths in people younger than 25 actually dropped slightly.Deaths were up for different racial and ethnic groups, but the largest increase – 54% – was among Hispanic Americans.According to a printed study in the Journal of Hospital Medicine, since the pandemic began, the mortality rate among hospitalized patients dropped by 18 percentage points.Researchers said the patients in the study now have a 7.6% chance of dying, whereas they had a 25.6% chance of dying at the start of the pandemic. 1465

New numbers just released by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) on Monday show the number of COVID-19 cases is going up sharply among a group of children.The new numbers show children now account for 9.5 percent of all COVID-19 cases across the United States with 476,439.“Children are not immune. Children can get this disease. Some children can get very sick from this disease,” said Dr. Sally Goza, president of the AAP. “When we first started with this, we were saying children were about 2 percent of all the cases, so they’re now 9.5 percent, so we are seeing a number of children that are cases.”Since May 21 COVID-19 cases in children have increased by more than 700 percent, while the total number of cases has risen 270 percent.In the same time frame, child hospitalizations from COVID-19 have nearly tripled that of the general population, rising 356 percent compared to 122 percent.Deaths have doubled in proportion, as well, as child COVID-19 hospitalizations have risen 229 percent compared to 115 percent for all age groups.“Kids are back playing sports. Some kids are back in school,” said Dr. Goza. “So, it would make sense that children would be increasing as well.”Dr. Goza says as we resume a more normal lifestyle a rise in children is expected, but it is the quick increase in proportions that is concerning. She says it comes down to one thing doctors have been preaching for months now: reducing community spread.“The whole thing of we need to decrease the community spread of this disease,” said Dr. Goza. “That’s what [these numbers] tell me is that we have not done a good job of decreasing community spread, because it’s now spreading to our young children.”Dr. Goza says the new numbers are not worthy of panic, but it is a sobering reminder that even those deemed most resilient to this disease are at-risk and need to heed precautions just as much as everyone else.“This virus is serious. New Orleans city officials have set a tentative date to remove the bodies of two workers that have been trapped inside a partially-collapsed construction site since October.The efforts to recover the bodies of the workers trapped in the collapsed Hard Rock Hotel construction site could begin as early as July 13, according to NOLA.com.A spokesman for the city said in a press briefing on Tuesday that crews have finished taking down three buildings that surround the hotel and are currently assembling cranes to work on the building itself.Crews could begin working on the hotel by Monday, and officials say it could take four to five days before rescuers can remove the remains of the two workers.The two workers were killed in a partial collapse of the Hard Rock Hotel construction site in downtown New Orleans on Oct. 12. "EC, LLC" is Essential Consultants, according to Daniels' lawsuit, a company that Cohen established in the weeks leading up to the 2016 presidential election to facilitate a payment of 0,000 to Daniels.Martin's title at the Trump Organization is vice president and assistant general counsel, according to her LinkedIn page.
