INDIANAPOLIS — Parents of two girls who attend Horizon Christian School on Indianapolis’ northeast side say their daughters are being bullied and threatened because of the color of their skin.Alexander Wortham realized something was happening when his daughter, Imani, started acting strange, asking to stay home from school more often than a typical teen girl.He and Dominique Duncan soon found out that their two high school daughters were being bullied.“Silence is killing our young people," Wortham said. "People not dealing with the issue. Not dealing with the problem and I think for us, as parents, enough is enough."Duncan agreed.“Very let down as a parent. Very let down,” Duncan said.Imani and her friend, LaShanti, say a male student started bullying them at school saying things like “If the school ever gets shot up, you’ll be the first one to get shot.”“He pointed to me personally, he looked me in the eye,” Imani said.“He said he would sell me into slavery if I didn’t do what he said and then he started making little jingles about slavery,” LaShanti said.According to an email the parents received from a school administrator, the school suspended the student last week after the girls’ parents brought the issue to the administration’s attention. But that student was allowed to return to class on Monday. The girls felt so uncomfortable, they both decided to stay home this week.“We should be able to go to school and not feel threatened, scared or having to be on edge the whole time,” Imani said. Both parents say they want the school to create more concrete policy changes on bullying. They both suggested an all-school assembly or bringing experts in to discuss race relations and bullying. The Horizon Christian School principal denied to comment on the situation, saying it’s against school policy to discuss students without permission from all parents involved.  1900

It’s one of the latest challenges to hit the web—the “In My Feelings” challenge. The dance videos—started by @theshiggyshow—show people jumping out of a car and dancing alongside the moving vehicle to Drake’s song “In My Feelings.”Last week, the National Transportation Safety Board issued a warning against the latest trend, stating “distraction kills.”This recent video is going viral and shows just how dangerous the challenge can be.  The video, uploaded by Jaylen Norwood, shows Norwood doing the challenge just before being struck by a car.The NOW spoke with Norwood, who said it was a staged incident gone wrong. He said he was supposed to jump on the hood of his friend’s car and continue to dance; however, he says he slipped on oil, which caused him to fall, before he was hit. 799

It's cringe-worthy and will take a chunk out of your wallet, getting a rock to the windshield is no fun. There are a few things you can do to ensure you have the best opportunity to get reimbursed.Mother of two, Joan Sutton was driving on I-8 at 12:06 p.m. Tuesday, "I'm on the way to the Costco, I took the freeway instead of the back roads, because I was in a hurry to pick up my kids."Then, CLAP! A rock the size of a baseball smacks her windshield."I need to hide because I was scared!" Sutton said, reenacting how she crouched down and threw one hand in front of her face, fearing for her safety. The entire time she kept one hand steady on the wheel to keep her from crashing. That moment may cost her family 0. They have to completely replace her windshield, with the new large circular crack right in front of her driver's seat. She's thankful her 13 and 11-year-old weren't in the car with her."Glad I was alone, but every time I saw that crack I'm still scared," Sutton said. It's something California Highway Patrol sees all the time, even though there are laws and a small citation encouraging companies to secure their truck's loads. To try to get the company to pay for your repairs, take down the license plate number of the truck, note the date, time and location of the accident. Then report it to your local CHP office and insurance company.Depending on your insurance policy and how much damage there is, you may have to pay out of pocket. For now, Sutton says she has to keep driving, even though she's pretty shaken, "yeah because I have two kids, they're not you know big, and one of my sons has autism, yeah so I need to be brave."She and her husband, Frank, are filing a counter report with the CHP, after the fact to try and get reimbursed for the windshield they're getting fixed on Saturday.10News reached out to the trucking company Friday with no answer. 1949

It’s all hands on deck during harvest time at Infinite Harvest. This indoor, hydroponic farm in Colorado specializes in microgreens, young vegetables grown in a controlled environment and cropped shortly after they’ve sprouted.Production manager Luke Blough says microgreen sales have quadrupled in the past nine months with more consumers becoming more health, sustainability and environmentally conscious.“We kind of check all three of those boxes,” he said. “Our microgreen products are very nutrient dense; very flavorful. They’re sustainably grown locally and we have less environmental impact.”There's less environmental impact because of the way they’re grown. Stacking shelves of microgreens and growing them under LED lights means using about 95% less land than traditional farming. This method is catching on nationally.“Consumers are becoming more interested in microgreens,” said Sarah A. Johnson, Ph.D., with the food science and human nutrition department at Colorado State University. “They’re a relatively new agricultural food crop.”.In addition to the nutritional and environmental benefits, Johnson’s team found that microgreens could have major impacts in urban areas by making fresh produce more easily available to areas considered food deserts.“I think they have a lot of potential to kind of pop up all over the place,” she said. “Not just with these large companies but with smaller sort of pop-up, start-up companies as well.”As more farmers look to avoid unpredictable weather and leave less of a carbon footprint, experts predict microgreen consumption will continue growing nationwide“There are a couple of things we can do in a controlled environment that you can’t really do when you’re at the mercy of Mother Nature,” Blough said. 1768
