Do you find it hard to make friends as an adult? If you’re having a difficult time meeting new people, you’re not alone. There are reasons behind the struggle, but there are mobile apps that can actually help you make new friends.Relationship expert YY Wei says as we get older, our past gets in the way of putting ourselves out there and meeting new people."Anytime we get hurt, in any type of relationship, it's going to have an emotional impact on us," says Wei. "And that means it's going to impede our own courage to reach out to people again."  A recent study out of the University of Kansas found that it takes about 50 hours of socializing to go from an acquaintance to a casual friend. If you want to become close friends, the study found it takes 200 hours of socialization. Most of us don’t have that kind of time, so there are apps that can help. For example, there’s a newer app called Girl Crew. It’s similar to dating apps. You simply create a profile, begin a chat and then if you like the person, you can set up a time and place to meet. Another app is Skout. You can use it to meet new people, no matter where you are, even if you’re just visiting. "The app helps because you know the basic stuff about this person," explains Wei. "Do we share the same hobbies, do we like the same music, and do we like to do similar things going hiking, going out drinking or happy hour."  If apps aren’t for you, Wei says to do what you like to do and meet people that way. So, if you like working out, you can meet friends at the gym. But if you’re going to stay in your comfort zone, you need to push yourself a little. Wei says at the end of the day, you need to give a little to get a little. 1788

EL PASO, Texas - A cathedral in El Paso was vandalized while the church was open and available for prayer Tuesday morning. The Diocese of El Paso says a suspect came into the sanctuary at St. Patrick Cathedral around 10 a.m. and destroyed an almost 90-year-old statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, which was located in the center behind the main altar.“I am in shock and we at the Cathedral are heartbroken over such an unexpected situation,” said The Rector of St. Patrick Cathedral, Fr. Trini Fuentes. The suspect has been detained by the El Paso Police Department, officials said.“This statue is one of my favorite representations of Jesus—his arms open wide in welcome, his heart aflame with love for us. I would often take inspiration from this image as I prepared for Mass,” said Bishop Seitz. “As sad as I am to see a statue attacked and destroyed, I am grateful that it was not a living person. But a statue, particularly this statue, concretizes and connects us to persons and ideals that are not visible to our eyes. They reveal to us realities that are close to us, but unseen."Officers are currently continuing their investigation into the vandalism.“At this point we do not know anything about the person who carried out this assault, but he certainly must be a person who is greatly disturbed to have attacked this peaceful place in our city and this image of the King of Peace. I hope this might be the impetus for him to receive the help he needs. He will be in my prayers,” Bishop Seitz continued. “I am devastated at this irreplaceable loss as I know members of this parish community and the whole Church of El Paso will be. At this moment we will reach out in confidence to the One this statue represented and I know he will console us."This story was first reported by Sydney Isenberg at KXXV in Waco, Texas. 1834

Two of them were carrying babies."This group right here, the four people right here, are going to pull him all the way to this corner cause that’s the farthest away from the back room."Meanwhile, a woman in a black shirt and long skirt crawls on the floor to the safe in the back. For six minutes, cameras roll on her bragging everything in sight."She's getting all the bangles, she's getting all the earrings, chains, mostly the bangles, the bracelets the anklets," said the owner's daughter. Don't blame Amazon for the death of Toys "R" Us.It's true, online shopping didn't help matters, but the struggles of Toys "R" Us predate the boom in online shopping. Many of its wounds were self-inflicted.The company's biggest problem: It was saddled with billions of dollars in debt. That debt stopped it from making the necessary investment in stores. And that meant an unpleasant shopping experience that doomed the chain. The company told employees Wednesday that it would close or sell its US stores after 70 years in business."If you're going to have that breadth of inventory, you need someone in the store to help you find it, help you experience it," said Greg Portell, lead partner at retail consultant A.T. Kearney. "It's hard to sell toys in a cold, warehouse environment."Even Toys "R" Us CEO David Brandon conceded in an SEC filing last fall that the company had fallen behind competitors "on various fronts, including with regard to general upkeep and the condition of our stores."Toys "R" Us' debt problems date back to well before Amazon was a major threat. Its debt was downgraded to junk bond status in January of 2005, at a time when Amazon's sales were just 4% of their current level.A year later the company was taken private by KKR, Bain Capital and real estate firm Vornado. The .6 billion purchase left it with .3 billion in debt secured by its assets and it never really recovered. The toy store faced several other big challenges at about the same time. There was the rise of big box retailers like Walmart, which now dwarfs Toys "R" Us in total toy sales. Last year toymakers Mattel and Hasbro each sold about billion worth of their toys at Walmart, more than twice as much as what they sold through Toys "R" Us. Target sold just about as many of their as Toys "R" Us last year. And like most retailers, Toys R Us also lost sales to online rivals such as Amazon that offered lower prices and quick shipping. But much of the chain's resources were devoted to paying off that massive debt load rather than staying competitive. When Toys "R" Us filed for bankruptcy in September 2017, it disclosed it had about billion in debt and was spending about 0 million a year just to service that debt. That burden crowded out critical strategic priorities, like making its stores a nice place to shop and paying employees.Tell us: How will you remember Toys 'R' Us?Brandon said in a filing last fall that the bankruptcy process would allow it to invest million in its stores. The company hoped to add playrooms where kids could try out toys and spaces for birthday parties, but it never got the chance.Brandon also vowed to spend more money on staff. With extremely low unemployment, competitors like Walmart are raising wages, while Toys 'R' Us was having trouble attracting the kind of help it needed. It said last fall it would spend million from 2018 to 2021 to raise starting wages and to reward and keep its most effective employees."Better employees make for happier customers," Brandon said in the filing.Despite sharply declining sales, Toys "R" Us was also extremely late to the game in closing stores. At the time of its bankruptcy filing, the chain had 1,697 stores -- more than it had ever had.In January, it announced plans to shut 182 US stores. Last month it filed for the equivalent of bankruptcy for its UK operations, where it had 105 locations. On Wednesday, hours before announcing the decision to close its US operations, it said it would close the last 75 UK stores. But the closings in recent weeks were far too little, too late. And as a result, now all of US stores will close, and probably most foreign stores as well.The-CNN-Wire 3698

EL CENTRO, Calif. (KGTV) - Two earthquakes shook the Imperial County city of El Centro Monday night. The first quake, which measured a 4.0 magnitude, was 1 kilometer east-northeast of the city at 6:13 p.m. The second quake was a 3.7 about 30 seconds later.A check of the U.S. Geological Survey's 'Did You Feel It' map showed shaking was reported in Calexico, about 12 miles away, and Yuma, Arizona.RELATED: Is there such a thing as earthquake weather? The quakes were "very quick", said an El Centro hotel clerk who did not wish to be identified.A server at Denny's said the shaking made his customers stand up out of concern, but no one was hurt. While no major damage has been reported, the quakes were strong enough to shake overhead lights and topple monitors on display at Staples, according to clerk Krosby Rider. 825
