During her Supreme Court confirmation hearing on Wednesday, Judge Amy Coney Barrett declined to give her legal opinion as to whether a President could pardon himself for crimes he may have committed while in office.Barrett's deferral came during a line of questioning by Senate Judiciary Committee member Patrick Leahy, D-Vermont. But in 1974, at the height of the Watergate scandal, the Justice Department faced the possibility that President Richard Nixon would do just that. On Aug. 5, assistant attorney general Mary Lawton issued a memorandum opinion that "no one may be a judge in his own case" and that "the President cannot pardon himself."Despite Lawton's opinion, some legal experts believe that a President may still be able to issue their own pardon. Dejoy confidently answered 55 cents.Rep. Porter followed up by asking DeJoy if he knew the price to send a postcard. DeJoy paused, stumped by the question. “I don’t,” he responded. EL CAJON (CNS) - One person has died in a traffic collision today just south of El Cajon, along northbound State Route 125 at Kumeyaay (8) Highway, authorities said.It occurred at 12:40 a.m. and was reported as being between a tow truck and another vehicle, a California Highway Patrol dispatcher said.The scene was cleared by authorities just before 3:40 a.m., the CHP dispatcher said.A La Mesa Police Department dispatcher said they assisted with some traffic control during the incident response.No other information was available. 542
EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) -- The San Diego County Sheriff's Department is looking for a man who attempted to rob a Burger King, threatening employees with a gun, in El Cajon off of Old Highway 80. Deputies say the man ordered food and when the cashier told him the amount owed, he pulled out the gun and demanded money. The employees ran to the back and the suspect shot his gun at least once before running off, according to deputies.There were no customers inside the restaurant at the time of the shooting and none of the employees were hurt. The suspect was seen taking off westbound on Old Hwy 80 in a dark-colored pick-up truck. He's described as white or Hispanic, 5'8", and about 200 pounds.
