Uber's IPO will likely arrive before the end of the decade.CEO Dara Khosrowshahi confirmed on Thursday that the company's "target" is to go public in 2019. The move is a departure from his predecessor, Uber co-founder Travis Kalanick, who had tried to put off an IPO as long as possible."We have all of the disadvantages of being a public company, as far as the spotlight on us, without any of the advantages of being a public company," Khosrowshahi said on stage at the New York Times DealBook Conference in Manhattan."Travis and the whole board now agree that we should just go public," he added.Uber currently has a valuation of billion, which makes it the most highly valued startup in the world. The company has raised more than billion in capital since its founding in 2009.SoftBank, the Japanese conglomerate, has also been in discussions with Uber for a massive private investment expected to total in the billions. One of the norms: "We do the right thing. Period."But one of the biggest obstacles for Khosrowshahi's turnaround effort at Uber may be Kalanick. The former CEO continues to serve on Uber's board. What I told Travis very early on is that any new CEO needs space and needs distance from the old CEO," Khosrowshahi said. "I was a little worried about that conversation, but actually he took it very well and he's been very respectful."Khosrowshahi said he does anticipate leaning on Travis for insights on the business at a later date. Twenty-one people have received some form of treatment in connection with the attempted assassination of a former Russian spy and his daughter with a nerve agent in England, though only three remain in a hospital, a police official told Britain's Sky News on Thursday.The three are former Russian spy Sergei Skripal; his daughter, Yulia; and Detective Sgt. Two conservative activists have been charged with multiple felonies in Michigan for a series of false robocalls that aimed to dissuade urban residents in Detroit and other cities from voting by mail. Jacob Wohl, 22, and Jack Burkman, 54, each were charged Thursday with four felony counts in Detroit, including intimidating voters in violation of election law, conspiracy and using a computer to commit crimes. The calls falsely warned residents in majority-Black Detroit and urban areas in at least four other states that voting by mail in the Nov. 3 election could subject people to arrest, debt collection and forced vaccination. In August, the men denied involvement. (KGTV) — A former North County school security guard was arrested this weekend, accused of sending inappropriate pictures to children online.Steven Lloyd Duncan, a former security guard from 2003 to 2014 at Valley Center High School, was arrested on Dec. 10 by the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC). He has been charged with multiple counts, including obscene material of a minor and luring a minor, according to his arrest log.Investigators say Duncan had communicated with and sent photos to underage children and received photos from children. Valley Center Pauma Unified School District (VCPUSD) said in a statement they have been informed told "none of the identifiable victims are from our community." Anyone who thinks they've been a victim or knows anyone who may have been a victim is asked to contact the ICAC at 858-715-7100.VCPUSD says they are cooperating with ICAC's investigation:"The safety of our students and staff is a top priority. Vaccine maker Pfizer says it’s already in regular communication with President-elect Joe Biden's transition team as part of ongoing efforts to keep all interested parties updated on its coronavirus vaccine and its distribution.Spokeswoman Sharon Castillo says, “There is no room for politics in this process.”Last Sunday, Biden chief of staff Ron Klain said the transition team planned to meet with Pfizer and other vaccine makers, as President Donald Trump continues to stall the formal transition process to a new administration.Castillo said Wednesday that Pfizer maintains ongoing communication with the Trump administration, governors and leading lawmakers of both political parties in Congress.
