He added he believes that more officers can make communities safer, “If they’re involved in community policing and not jump squads.”Supreme Court Following the nomination of Amy Coney Barrett, some Democrats have called on a potential Biden presidency to add Supreme Court members. Biden said he is opposed to adding members to the Supreme Court, but would not rule out adding his appointees to the court.Barrett will likely be confirmed by the US Senate next week, giving Republican-appointed justices a 6-3 advantage in the high court."I have not been a fan of court packing because it can generate – whoever wins, it keeps moving in a way that is inconsistent with what is going to be manageable,” Biden said. “I am not a fan, but it depends on how this turns out.”Biden said a fast confirmation of Barrett could sway him.“It depends on how much they rush it,” Biden said.Biden criticized the Senate for taking up Barrett’s nomination, but not working on a stimulus bill.“They have no time to deal with that but they have time to rush this through,” Biden said.Biden he would take a definitive stance on adding Supreme Court members by Election Day, depending on how the Barrett nomination goes. 3651

(KGTV) - Neighbors are calling for more safety measures after surveillance video captured a fiery collision at an intersection in Jamul.A week ago, just before 5 p.m., Marc Burnett was opening up his off-road racing shop along Campo Road, when he heard it."I heard the skid marks hitting, and then I heard the boom," said Burnett.He ran outside and was greeted by flames."I just saw flames in the air. I saw a lot of flames. I saw the guy on the ground. He was on fire," said Burnett.Burnett raced back inside."I got the fire extinguisher, and had to put the motorcycle out -- and him," said Burnett.Burnett says the motorcycle driver, a man in his 30s, suffered serious burns to his hands and legs, but survived."He was very lucky that he survived," said Burnett.Burnett even more amazed when he looked at his surveillance video.In it you can see the truck pulling into the intersection from Maxfield Road and stop, before the eastbound motorcycle slams into the side of the truck, exploding into flames."Very scary to see that video. Didn’t know it was that bad until I saw it," said Burnett.Sadly, it was not unfamiliar.Burnett, who’s been in the area for more than 15 years, says he’s seen the aftermath of some eight serious accidents at that intersection, including a person killed crossing the road."It’s kind of a blind turn ... People coming out where the truck coming out ... It's hard to judge," said Burnett.Burnett is now lobbying for a traffic light at that intersection, which is often busy with casino traffic."Drivers are passing semi trucks on the turn. It's dangerous. KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Johnson County Library is searching for the owner of an old family photo it believes was mistakenly left at the library.A library employee found the photo in the donation bin at the Lackman Library in Lenexa, Kansas."Because of that we don't know who dropped it off, where it came from or who it belongs to," said Josh Neff, an information specialist at the library.The photo was left in the bin in March and the library has been holding on to it ever since."We have been holding on to it hoping that whoever accidentally lost it, would think to come back here and ask about it. But so far nobody has claimed it," said Neff.Now, the library is turning to social media in hopes of finding the photo's owner. On Monday, the library posted the image on Facebook and Twitter."We know the power of social media. We know that it's a great way to spread the message," Neff said. KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City, Missouri Health Department is speaking out after it poured bleach on food intended to be given to homeless people.Nellie McCool, who helps run Free Hot Soup Kansas City, has been helping the homeless for years until Sunday."Officers and health inspectors demanded we destroy our food and we were violating health code violations by sharing meals with our friends," said McCool.The department said the group wasn't following the law about serving the homeless."They were notified back in a meeting in September that they needed to get a permit and they just outright said they refused to do that," said Dr. Rex Archer, director of health for KCMO.But McCool said she never heard from the department."That is incorrect," McCool said. "We never had any kind of government official ever come and speak with anybody at any of the public parks."According to the health department, the permit is free and all organizations that want to serve food to homeless people (or anyone) needs this permit. Archer said the food was also not being handled correctly and could put others at risk."Preparing food in all these individuals homes when people haven't been trained, prepare food safely. Then, they are taking it and transporting it in trunks of cars when its cool. It's supposed to be warm food but they have no insulation or a way to keep the food warm," Archer said. 1424

KANSAS CITY, Mo. —Memorial Day travel may be more difficult in 2018 than it has been in more than a dozen years, according to AAA.The company released its 2018 Memorial Day travel forecast ahead of the holiday known as the informal kickoff to summer.AAA said 2018 will see a near-record number of travelers, with more than 41.5 million people expected to take a trip.That’s nearly 5 percent more than 2017, with an additional 2 million people traveling in planes, trains and cars.According to INRIX, a global transportation analytics company, travel delays could be up to three times longer, becoming especially bad on the Thursday and Friday before the holiday as travelers mix with work-week commuters.Most travelers will take a car to their destination — 36.6 million to be exact. Airlines will see 3.1 million people, and the 1.8 million remaining will take trains, buses and cruise ships.Despite higher gas prices, travelers are still hitting the road. They will pay the most expensive Memorial Day weekend gas prices in four years.One contributing factor to peoples’ willingness to travel despite the price hike could be that airline and rental car costs are expected to dip this Memorial Day weekend, making up for the increased cost.Airfare is down 7 percent in price, and the average daily cost of a rental car is the lowest it’s been in four years.AAA released a list of the top 10 Memorial Day travel destinations, with Orlando at #1. 1463
