BONITA, Calif. (KGTV) - A pursuit that ended at a South Bay apartment complex Thursday led to the arrest of a suspect inside a home.Robert Perez, 26, was seen leaving the scene of a domestic violence incident at a Lemon Grove apartment complex at 10:30 a.m., San Diego County Sheriff's deputies said.Deputies tried to pull over Perez as he drove away but he refused to stop, said officials. Perez began driving more than 100 miles an hour on freeways including SR-94 and SR-54, according to deputies.Perez parked his car in a carport at 2920 Briarwood Road and ran to an apartment on Plaza Mercia in Bonita. Deputies said Perez initially kept the resident of the apartment from leaving, but the person eventually ran outside.Perez was taken into custody inside the apartment. No one was hurt.Deputies did not release details about the domestic violence incident. 875

BOULEVARD, Calif. -- Crews are investigating what caused a fire to erupt at a school in Boulevard Monday afternoon.The fire happened at Clover Flat Elementary School in boulevard around 3 p.m., according to Cal Fire. It took firefighters less than an hour to extinguish the flames. The fire completely destroyed the classroom. The fire damaged several outbuildings on campus. The cause of the fire is under investigation, Cal Fire said. 449

Bonsall, Calif.,- Many horses and their owners are returning home to San Luis Rey Training Center, after the Lilac Fire devastated their homes. Chomping away at her breakfast is 6 year-old thoroughbred, Miss Napper Tandy.She is a sweet, race horse, who is also a survivor. “I smelled the smoke, and knew there could be trouble,” owner, Sam Nichols said, while recalling the troubling moments that changed their lives.Last December’s Lilac Fire burned 4,100 acres of North County, destroying 157 structures.One of them was their home— the stables at San Luis Rey Training Center in Bonsall.Miss Napper Tandy managed to get away from the flames, but found herself in a small pen with six other horses.In the chaos, she was badly injured.“She had been kicked pretty bad in the leg,” Nichols said.For a race horse, it was devastating. But thanks to donations and community support, she and dozens of her stable mates found a temporary home at the Del Mar Fairgrounds.“I rehabbed her here, I started working her here,” Nichols said.It worked. In her first race since the fire and her injury, Miss Napper Tandy took first.Adding to her title of “survivor,” she became a first-time “winner.”“It toughened her up, it made her more of a fighter. She’s always been a fighter, but she came through it pretty well,” Nichols said proudly.But five months after the devastation, temporary stables are now being opened up at San Luis Rey.Many riders and their horses are moving back.Miss Napper Tandy’s stay in Del Mar will soon come to a close.“It’s bittersweet going back. It’s been great for us and the horses. BEACH LAKE, Pa. – It may look like a regular house from the outside, but inside Meghan Buselli’s bustling home, one room looks just like a regular classroom.“I have Landon who's eight, Sawyer who's six and Levi who's five and then I have two little girls that I fit in there somehow,” said the mom of five, who has a college degree in elementary education.It’s a degree she initially thought she would use by going back to teach in the classroom. However, when the time came for her oldest child to go to school, she had second thoughts.“The age of five came super fast, quicker than I thought,” she said, “and I wasn't ready to let go of our time.”So, she decided to home-school her children instead. It’s a decision that – at the time – she had no idea would end up attracting attention from around the country.“I think parents thought that, you know, we need to think of different options for our children,” Buselli said.That is how, through social media, she ended up in the role of home-schooling helper to parents looking to do the same, in the wake of COVID-19.“They say, ‘Oh, well, I don't have a degree in that,’ and I say, ‘You know what? Think of your grandmother's favorite recipe that you use year after year. Did she go to culinary school? No.’” Buselli said. “So, I always say that you know and you're more qualified in this than you know and if I didn’t have my degree, I could still do it.”In the year prior to the pandemic, about 2.5 million students were home-schooled in the U.S.Buselli offers parents tips on how to do it, such as:Check your state home-schooling laws for the required paperworkUnderstand that not all teaching is done at a chalkboard or behind a desk – she’s learned it’s less about trying to mimic a classroom and more about being flexibleLess is more when it comes to lesson planning – focus more on concepts, not busy workShe said she knows her kids have learned a lesson, when they show confidence in applying what they learned“Another word for home-schooling, I think, is freedom,” she said.She also feels home-schooling is helping stretch out her children’s childhoods, while providing other life lessons, too.“It's just them seeing how we carry on a household, how we carry on life as adults, how we foster relationships with people,” she said, “and then we fit academics in around all of that, with family unity being the glue that sticks together through it all.”It’s a lesson her children seem to be absorbing, as well. 2475
